Go 720T reset and remote control problems

My Go720T which has been working well (or OK given the buggy TomTom software) until recently has started failing to reset properly.

If I do a normal reset, even after waiting several minutes, it will not start up when pressing or holding down the On / Off button.

If I then reset with a charger cable attached it seems to resolve the problem.

It also seems to crash sometimes when connecting to my PC.

Today it the remote control wouldn't connect, hence doing a reset.

Any ideas what is going wrong and any possible way to resolve this problem?

Should I start to think about returning it either PC World or contacting TomTom? I purchased it last October.
