I reset the unit and wiped the overlays from POI Warner. I then put the POI's on from POI Handler using the Synch-tool and they now show up in the "search in radius" list. Why don't POI Warner like the PGPSW ones?

Only 8-bit sound files can be played in most versions of POI-Warner, that may be the problem with the sound.

If you can hear the sound files when you are configuring POI-Warner and also see the icons, then not sure why you are not getting the warnings.

On the POI-Warner Menus

tap Stop Monitoring

then

tap - POI-Manager tab
tap - POI-Settings
tap - Overlay Settings

then check what distance you have set - I have mine as Show Always

You need to select each poi from the dropdown menu for every poi for the above settings.

When you have finished configuring POI-Warner, you need to tap:

File - Quit

You then need to re-boot the nav unit, it will then pick up the POI-Warner changes when you restart the unit.

I have got POI-Warner versions for Navigon, Medion PDA's and also Medion PND's and all work fine once configured. Laughing

I must admit it is not the easiest thing to setup.

Just a note of caution, as if you needed one. If your units battery should go flat, not only have I found that POI-Warner will not start, but needs setting up from scratch as if it had never been installed at all Crying or Very sad

Doug. Pocketgps is right - work on the premise that the instructions are Censored Censored Censored Censored but the program is Love it Love it Love it Love it (well, sort of). So stick with the POIs you REALLY want and you will get them working.

With regard to the blank results in the 'in radius' search. I presume you did not have an active GPS fix - POIWarner would then only show the FULL list of POIs (check 'all') as it doesn't know where you are to work out a radius. (If you were on the move WITH a fix, there might be some sort of problem, but it's more likely some sort of 'undocumented feature' Wink ).

If youu check your warnings carefully you may find that some need setting up - non-camera-type POIs tend to be set to 'no warning' by default.

Anyway, you've spent good money on a (good) product and hopefully will keep getting help here until you get familiar with it. And navigating.de themselves are reasonably good at responding to queries.

Hi guys,
Thanks for that. I felt a bit peed off last night after sitting at home and setting up all the PGPSW speed settings for both first, last and speed warnings with sound files and then going past a camera and getting no indication of its whereabouts at all! In the end I did wipe the unit, reinstall POI Warner and then put on selected POI's from POI Handler.
This morning going towards one of my POI's, I got a POI graphic on the left hand side of my unit with a countdown of 300 yards etc. That's why I asked whether it was only the POI Handler POI's that did that and not the PGPSW ones.
I still want the speed cameras from here so will give it another go tonight. I am sure that when I looked for "search in radius" POI's, I had a signal but cannot be sure. And do they also indicate the mobile cameras or just the static ones?
Again, David and Pocketgps, many thanks, I will get there in the end - it's just I am used to TomTom and Garmin units which seem so easy in comparison.
Regards
Doug

One of the settings suggested by Pocketgps I do not have. I have POI Warner MN/7 V3.32.122443 and the POI Manager - POI Settings - Overlay settings gives me a list of POI's to be monitored with tick boxes and a de/select all, Cancel and OK buttons. Nothing about always shown. Are we using the same program? Also my overlays avialble is 125, POI monitored = 103 and POI displayed = 9289. Does this sound right with all POI boxes ticked?

My PGPSW cameras also show on the left with a countdown exactly as your POIs, so you'll be all right with them honestly (in the end!). Whatever camera files you load should show up ok like this (and so should any other POIs you load from here or wherever). As I said earlier (and as you've obviously found Crying or Very sad ), setting the warnings is a PAIN with all the camera files - I've ended up just setting sound warnings for the main 30/40 cameras for now so I've less to change if it's not what I want. I suggest you set up just one set of warnings initially to test out on a camera near you.

As for the differing settings, I think this comes from your unit being different from Pocketgps's, as (I think) the version of POI Warner is. While earlier POI-Ws could display the POIs on the map (which is what I suspect the 'always shown' refers to), one of the irritants with V7 is that the separate display on the left is all you get, apparently because Navigon would not release the info needed for a proper map display to the POI-W people needed for a proper map display.

Finally, as for the numbers, I'm not really sure what they really mean TBH. I would just make sure your POI files seem to have the data in you expect, and work as you want, then let the numbers go away and play quietly amongst themselves!

And none of these complications would exist if Navigon hadn't so perversely refused to allow user-input POIs on their latest range Evil or Very Mad

Here are a few very poor screen shots I just did.

Shows POI-Warner running in main nav screen, green box bottom right.
Map removed for obvious reasons.

POI-Warner main menu screen. Click Stop Monitoring to carry on

Now the menu you don't seem to have ! Overlay Settings..

Or should I say this is the menu you are missing. Notice the Show always, or you
can select when the Icon will show and at what zoom level

AS I said before, once you have finished all the settings use the menu below and Quit the program. Don't use Start Monitoring. Reboot your nav unit for the alterations to take place.

Note it only says GATSO because I rename all the PGPSW files before I put them on any of my gps units regardless of type.

eg

GATSO
MOBILE
P_MOBILE
REDLIGHT
SPECS

Thanks guys, appreciated again. Will persevere with this problem. Going to add the cameras again and see what happens. They are in Generic asc format - is this okay? And if you change the name like yours, do you have to change the name of the associated bmp file to the same?
Need to change the sound files to 8 bit as well.
Let you know.
Thanks
Doug

Yes, use the Generic .asc file type.

And yes you need to change the .bmp file to the same.

GATSO.asc
GATSO.bmp

etc

I stupidly paid for the POI Handler Speed cameras on the off chance I could not get the ones from here going. I went to my profile and downloaded the setup file for the cameras, ran it and got the following message "Installer could not start on device. Possible cause could be a different/custom installation folder. Make sure to not change standard installation device and path. Please restart setup."
I am doing a standard installation and not trying to change folders/files or devices. Ever seen this before and if yes, is there a way round it? Have messaged POI Handler but no reply yet. Getting impatient!
Have put the PGPSW cameras back on and have to try them yet. If they do work, the other problem might go away.
Thanks
Doug

I have never tried or used any of the POI-Warner poi's. So cannot answer that.

If you login to your account at POI-Warner, you can find most answers in the different sections of your account for the product you purchased.

POI-Warner has always answered any questions I had within 48 hours or sooner. But that was a few years back, so cannot comment if they are still good or not.

On all of the gps units I have, I can demo a route and still get the warnings (both icons and sound).

Doug,

I haven't used the POI-Handler cameras either, so the message doesn't mean anything to me, I'm afraid.

However, you successfully loaded some free POIs from POI-Handler earlier I believe. I'd suggest you try loading a free POI and the camera POI in the same operation. Then if the free one works but you get the same error message for the cameras, it would look like a problem with them - for instance it might be a incorrect message caused by your subscription not being confirmed at the time you tried downloading them.

If neither will load then maybe you set up the connection differently this time in some way from the original successful load.

If you drive on the continent, then as you HAVE paid for the POI-Handler database, you might as well check the continental coverage against the PGPSW one. Although the PGPSW is excellent, continental coverage is still becoming more comprehensive and you MAY find that POI-Handler's German one for instance has more entries (given that they specialise in all things German, that would hardly be surpising Wink ).

It may also be worth mentioning that the POI-Handler camera POIs are directional - ie you can set the warnings up to avoid being alerted to those facing away from you, or being on the other side of the road (or on a nearby but different road).

Anyway, good luck with the saga Laughing

Hi David,
Thanks again. I have all the cameras on there from here, 8 bit sound files set up, early/late alerts set up - all I need is a speed camera!! There are only two where I live and both in directions I don't usually go.
I will try them tomorrow before I worry about anything else. POI-Handler have not answered my questions about the error message yet.
I don't go abroad in my car so only want the UK ones. A question? To get the graphy thing on the left with countdown distance timer - does this only come up when you have picked the POI as a destination? As with the speed cameras hopefully? I am sure when I was heading towards Homebase, it came up on my screen even though I had not selected it as a POI.
I like graphic things, as you can see.
Regards
Doug

The left-screen display (should Rolling Eyes ) comes up whenever a monitored POI comes within the range you have set.

If you set a POI as destination then the POI will show up on the map itself as you approach it (possibly the POI icon, but maybe just the chequered flag) like any destination. It wouldn't surprise me if it came up on the left of the screen as well in that circumstance.
