Well on my 255WT, all I have found is the following.
Find the place on the 2D map and zoom fully in for accuracy.
Touch the screen just to the side of the road (so the device doesn't flag up the road name or number) and press Save. Give it a name when prompted and it will be stored in Favourites.
Now when you access this favourite, the lat/long will be revealed.

And, on my 255WT, if I want to search for a place whose lat/long I know,
it's Where to....tab down...Coordinates.

I do not see a way to search for lat/long.
Thanks anyway.

Try page 11 of the user manual!

Just tap in the relevant box and use the on-screen keyboard that should pop up. You can change the format to suit the co-ords you have - in your case dd.ddd

On the sat nav it has a box for W, S, N, E
What do I choose in each one?
Thanks

The latitude is North if you're in the northern hemisphere.
The longitude is West if you're west of Greenwich (ie in Spain).
The longitude is East if you're east of Greenwich (ie somewhere around the French / Italian border).
