nuvi 7x0 software version 4.80

Quote:
Changes made from version 4.70 to 4.80:
◦Corrected issue with TTS voice stuttering.
◦Corrections to Language Guide.
◦Correction to MAD Maps routing.
◦Improvements to phone number/contact display.

Changes made from version 4.60 to 4.70:
◦Added power off for FM transmitter after 5 seconds of non-use.

I must have missed 4.70 somehow (even though i checked last week)..

Get it via WebUpdater...

Anyone check if they've fixed the Phone Home Button???

Paul, 4.70 was only a factory update not made available to existing devices. You didn't miss it.

BTW, did you receive my email? (sorry, off-topic)

Well, I never learn. I updated to 4.80 and maybe it is a little quicker at booting up (or is it just my wishfull thinking?) but the FM switching off is driving me crazy.

I always have my Nuvi play through the radio via the FM facility. I normally have number of BBC podcasts to listen to and the whole setup was working very nicely. Now, if I don't listen to a podcast I get loud hissing whenever there isn't a turn or a speed camera for me to be told about.

I can not imagine why Garmin have made this change. It has made the unit unusable unless listening to an mp3. I guess the answer might be to have a silent mp3 and listen to that. But it was so much simpler to just hit the pause button!

On a related note to the application update, Garmin has begun offering a new interface for updates. Called MyDashboard, it's a one-stop updating service, where audio, MSN, traffic, all application updates are handled pretty much one-click. But for now, if already using WebUpdater, I might suggest staying with it. Dashboard notifies you if an update is available, but offers no specific details on that update. In addition if you have modified voices, Dashboard will update all available voices without the option to choose which ones. There may be a time, and perhaps soon, that you will want to use Dashboard instead of WebUpdater. There's a distinct possiblity that Garmin may be adding some new functionality, tho I've only heard one mention of it (so far). For now tho, if you have the option of WebUpdater or Dashboard, IMO stick with WebUpdater.

I don't recall what version I had previous to installing 4.8 but I will say that it takes a lot longer to boot now than it did before. It sits at "loading Maps" for minutes.

Try clearing your tracklog. It just may speed things up a bit.

Thanks for the suggestion. The user manual has nothing on tracklog or track log or tracks. Even a word search in the PDF manual doesn't find any of those words. The only track that exists is Track up for map orientation.

I tried clearing the trip log and then attached the unit to Mapsource and attempted to download the tracks. Yup there are still tracks.

There are 13 days worth of tracks amounting to about 10K points, which I expect is the limit.

It's strange that the manual says nothing about the fact that the unit actually does save tracks.

BTW, tracks is something that I use all the time on my handheld eTrex but I really have no use for tracks on the Nuvi. I'd just as soon turn them off.
