|
|
Story and image courtesy of the Lancashire Evening Post.
Lancashire Speed Camera Partnership chiefs have admitted that a speed camera van should not have been operating whilst partly obscured by an advertising hoarding.
The speed camera van was parked behind the advertising board in Clayton-le-Woods and had been reversed into position to make full use of the cover provided by the hoarding.
Saf Munshi of the Lancashire Safety Camera Partnership said that whilst it was an approved site it should not have been used whilst the advertising, in place for the Cuerden Valley Fair, was in situ but no apology has been offered.

Isn't the Lincolnshire police's 'Operation Stealth' just that though - deliberately hiding the camera? |

Got a reference for that, sounds interesting/worrying in equal measure! _________________ Darren Griffin |

The A16 around Market Deeping has had a sign saying 'Stealth cameras in operation' at about Latitude: 52.68616460707265 Longitude: -0.3289675712585449 for over a year now. I havn't been there for a couple of months but the sign was there last time I was. I presume this is alongside their 'Think Bike' campaign. I believe that a few bikers have been K/SI on this stretch of road. |

The official Lincs County explanation is HERE
I know we can't believe all we read in MCN but their interpretation is HERE
MCN also claims that the head of ACPO road policing has admitted in an interview that he wants hidden speed cameras on our roads. HERE
This stuff isn't new though and Op Stealth was introduced last year. I was talking to a mate last Sun who travels a lot in his job and he told me he had seen a Lincs camera hidden in a horse box.
Sneaky or what! |

My 4 year old didn't think it was a very good hiding place for a van, but I suppose hide and seek is his favorite game at the moment
Despite my belief they are no more than revenue generation- if anyone got pinged by this "hidden" van I have serious concerns about their situational awareness while driving - maybe the wakeup call is needed. |

Derbyshire police are up to their sneaky tricks again. Following the builder's van last year, they are now operating from the back of a white camper van
I spotted it one Sunday on the A615 between Matlock and Alfreton.

Sneaky, if anyone has or has the chance to grab a snap of this one I'd appreciate it. _________________ Darren Griffin |

Derbyshire police are pretty sneaky, it's true. Anyone who is a regular traveller between Whaley Bridge to Buxton on the old road known as "Long Hill" will have seen dry stone wallers in reflective jackets. The other day, on the only straight bit of this road I saw what appeared to be two dry stone wallers with what I took to be a laser levelling device. I thought that this was a bit high tech for the job, and then saw that it was a police officer holding a traditional laser speed gun. They had "hidden " their police car. So don't discount the old fashioned ambush! I saw a similar thing in Herefordshire, where the police officers were hiding behind a tree pretending to be tree surgeons. |
