do i need an rds radio in the car to get rds on traff my 530

Welcome to the forum, the radio in your car has no connection to the sat nav device so its not relevant, to receive RDS-TMC data on the 530 you need to purchase the optional RDS-TMC receiver and plug this in to your 530.
Whether this is worth bothering with is a rather mute point point as reception in the UK is still problematic in some areas, then when you get a good signal (often by splicing the receiver to the car aerial) the data is rather suspect.

I would treat any form of traffic data as a gimick as it simply isn't good enough to rely upon, nice when it works but thats only 5% of the time - I don't trust it any longer be it HD, RDS or GPRS - Mike
