Given the new average speed camera plans, does anyone know of a SatNav that will display an actual average speed based on GPS?
Ideally it would need to be able to be started as you pass the first set of cameras and then run showing on the display, until reset. |

The closest you'll get is a satnav which activates from a database like PGPSW's and gives audio noises to remind you to look at the displayed speed icon throughout the zone. Maybe also audio warn if you go above the limit. I haven't heard of anything which will calculate your average speed. Presumably you'd want something which could tell you that your average speed is xx, so that you could speed up if you're well below it and slow down if you're over it. But that sounds dodgy - condones breaking the speed limit and might be unworkable over a series of cameras rather than a pair. _________________ Dennis

Igo based software does pretty much what you want with average speed calculation, but unfortunately the implementation is not good, as the incorrect assumption made by Igo is that SPECS cams always come in pairs. If you are clever enough, you can program a skin to work pretty much how you describe on SPECS. |

My 'old' Garmin Nuvi 660 will display a live average speed.
You press the 'arrival' or 'speed' box (according to whether it is running a route or not) and you get a trip data display with live speed, average overall speed, average moving speed, maximum speed - these can be reset/zeroed at the start of a specs section and run live from then until reset.
Obviously you shouldn't be adjusting or using your sat nav controls while driving but your passenger of course could!!
I don't know if newer Garmin devices do this |
