As the title says, does anyone know of a unit which can use the Pocket GPS World database?

Just getting a new company car with sat nav but cant get the speed cameras on it so am looking for a standalone unit and would like to carry on using the database from here if possible.

There are none at present but this is something we are regularly re-visiting. We were planning to launch our own but the recession has meant it is too great a risk currently. However there are other irons in the fire.

Sorry nothing is firm enough to commit to even the vaguest of dates. We have an iPhone App in development and deals in other countries that may yield a solution that could be ported to the UK. Can't say more than that.

However as you have a PDA, GPSSentry is a great solution?

For what its worth, if you were to make a standalone system available i'd definitely buy (if the price was right of course!)

Maybe you could have a poll to register interest to see if it is viable?

Let us know how you get on with the K1 Pocketgps Smile

I emailed Inforad to double check their use of the PGPSW database and this was their reply:

Inforad wrote:
We do use pgps but we use our own database as well,

You need to update every 3 to 4 weeks as there are always new cameras going up!

They said you use the normal Inforad software to update the device rather than via this website. They also say they support fixed and mobile cameras, so for 40 I'm very tempted! I'm always wary of you get what you pay for though.....

Inforad's statement about the use of two data bases puzzled me so I took it up with them as well. Here is the reply:
Quote:
Hi the question you wrote was:Does this mean that you are taking speed camera data from two sources, PGPSW and Inforad, and merging them so that it will contain both Inforad and PGPSW camera locations or does integration mean something different?
This exactly what we are doing,Integrate means to merge or unify:
Regards,
I think merging databases is a recipe for confusion - I'd much rather run PGPSW as a stand alone.

I've also learnt from Inforad that the K1 IS directional, will NOT support Text to Speech and gives the same audio/visual warning irrespective of the speed limit. Nonetheless, I've ordered a K1 and will report back when I've given it a work-out.

Can I ask that all discussion of Inforad takes place here so that we can keep things organised.
