Just got my latest toy and want to play!!!
Have got the PGSW speed cameras in and also the voices .OGG files so I have the lovely Liz chatting to me.
Only problem is, when I have Kate adjusted correctly for the TT directions, Liz is so quiet as to be almost inaudible - especially when the radio is on!
Is there any way of boosting the .OGG sounds but not the TomTom voice?
Second point. I went off on a trial run last night and found that the installed TomTom speed cameras were worse than useless - in any case I have the wonderful set which is provided byb this esteemed establishment so why do I need TomTom's anyway?
So how can I disconnect or remove TomTom's speed cameras from the 540? I don't want to start deleting the wrong files! _________________ Furry Fred

To disable the TT cameras goto the Main Menu 3 of 3 and go into TomTom Services, TomTom Safety Cameras. Disable Alerts. Easiest and safest way to do it...
Not too sure on the OGG Volume though although you might able to use something like Audacity to adjust the levels. |

The last post in this thread gives some instruction on how to adjust volumes with Audacity. |

This is basically a TomTom problem....
The sound files as supplied have already been raised in volume to full digital peak level, and various audio compression techniques have been used to maximise the perceived volume.
If you choose a "real" voice (i.e. Jane or Tim) the level of the warnings (spoken OR normal sound effects) match quite well.
However, TomTom have done something to the Text to Speech voices (i.e. Kate and Simon) to make them louder than everything else on the machine (and quite distorted to my ears too!), so when you set a comfortable level for those, everything else is quieter in comparison.
Until TomTom implement separate volume controls for the individual types of audio (or reduce the level of the TTS voices slightly) there's not a lot that can be done. Unfortunately, although they are aware of it, I doubt it is on the top of their priorities list.
BUT....
Having said all that, it has just come to my attention that the current "Liz" voice files for download are NOT the latest version that I made and sent in, and may not be QUITE as loud as they should be. (you can tell by checking if Liz says "20 miles an hour" on the Gatso_20 file. The ones I sent in DO, but the ones on the website DONT).
It won't make a huge difference, but If you PM me with your email address, I'll send a new set for you to try. |

Thanks Andy - please send them and I will report back after trying them.
I will also set up a ticket with TomTom as my compliant is also that the hands-free voice is far too quiet if you are not being deafened by Kate! _________________ Furry Fred

You could put the Liz navigation voice on the unit and use that as the sound levels are similar to the camera warnings, if you don't have the voice file I can e-mail it over - Mike |

Thanks Mike. I will pm you with my email for the Liz navigation files.
I have just emailed TomTom as follows:
"I am having great problems using my hands free on my 740 Live.
I am connecting perfectly OK but the volume of the voice is very low.
I am using Kate as my TomTom voice and if I raised the volume level so that I could hear my phone Kate is absolutely deafening!
I have recorded some POI warnings (.OGG files) and find exactly the same happens.
Is there a way that I can cut Kate's volume down or increase the phone / .OGG volume without it affecting the other?
If not can you consider making this a feature in a subsequent software issue"
I will keep you aware of any reply (positive or not) when I receive it.
Watch this space!!

The volume of the hands free call is seperate to the volume used by the voices. To adjust the hands free volume simply adjust the volume mid-call. It wil adjust the call volume and not the voice volume. |

Thanks Paul,
Lets also see what TomTom say as I've combined this with .OGG voices _________________ Furry Fred

Adjust the handsfree volume in the manner described by Paul and don't hold your breath waiting for TomTom's reply - bear in mind one reply they will be giving is that they do not support third party POIs (e.g. our speed cameras) so they won't help in respect of the OGG files either. _________________ Dennis

To be honest the hands free volume has nothing to do with the OGG files. The answer would be the same no matter what voice you used or if you added OGG files or not.
It's easy enough to test by getting someone (even yourself with a land line) to ring your mobile.
The same problem is discussed in this thread with apparent success. |
