One thing though MaFt, are route calculations really as slow as you say? I did a quick Bradford to Land's End on my O2 with MN4 and it took 48 seconds, and the M/c Airport trip took 17 seconds. (on the 2150 Max these times were 4 seconds and 3 seconds respectively - which I call fast!).

route calculations do seem quite slow BUT i'm also short on both program memory and storage memory which probably don't help much... other than the slowish route calculations the software itself is quite nippy - unlike garmin mobile xt which i find unusable at times on this phone...

if i get chance i might clear a load of junk from the phone and try some routes again.

updated review to add:

*UPDATE: Clearing some junk from the phone and freeing up some memory made the Bradford to Lands' End route calculation a more respectable 3m45s and the Bradford-Manchester Airport took 30s. I can well imagine these times would be further decreased on a more modern / higher spec device.

Sounds a lot more realistic than the iGo solution that doesn't allow you to use any other card than the one they supply.

Pre-installed on a micro SD card. Bums.
Can I move it all to my own SD card and run it from there. What am I supposed to do with all my MP3s and photos, squeeze them onto the Sygic card?!
Nice review, looks good otherwise.
Regards,
David

Only a 2Gb card.... thats a little different to McGuider then which comes on a 4Gb card, leaving approx half free.

As long as it works the same as McGuider then you can transfer the files once. The activation wizard link can be found at the foot of all pages at Sygic.com. I believe the activation wizard at mcguider.com will work too.

I paid a visit to their site for more info but my Avast Network shield jumped up saying that it had blocked access to crew.abnc-portal[dot]com. Just something to be aware of.

As for the software itself, it seems to tick all the boxes so I signed up for their tester program. Let's see if anything comes of it. Smile

That's rubbish! Utterly unacceptable. Just for poops and grins, I switched to the Western European map (825.2159) and calculated the same route, city center to city center, and TT7 took half a minute exactly to come up with a route. Although It says it's 402 miles and would take 6 hours and 45 minutes to get there.

That's with the old XDA Orbit from O2: 201 Mhz CPU and around 16/16 MB free each in storage and program memory.

I thought I read once about Sygic porting this software to other platforms. Anyone hear of them porting this for the Blackberry? And better yet, an on-board GPS navigator for blackberry?

Still looking for that on-board Blackberry navigator!

they mentioned this at CeBIT - the reason they haven't done it for Blackberry is that Sygic is written in C+ and Blackberry only opened up their devices/software for java-based apps...

Any idea of the release date, where to buy and how much this is going to cost?
Apart from illegal torrent sites i can't see this listed anywhere.

Many thanks

Question

79 and 'available in the coming weeks'

McGuider is essentially the same and already available

Question

Personally I would get McGuider unless you really need the better itinerary planning provided in this new version. The maps appear the same and you get a 4GB sdhc card, so 2GB of extra storage capacity. It will cost 59.99 direct from TeleAtlas. BTW beware ordering from Expansys as they now only list the old McGuider 2008 version.

Is there any equivalent of TomTom's traffic updates (ie finding the best route avoiding current jam problems)
Thanks
Tim

Not that I am aware of. I believe traffic alerts are planned but not yet implemented.

Hello again - i've contacted Sygic and not had a lot of joy on the release date for this software. They just guided me to the Mcguider website.

How much difference is there between the Sygic software and Mcguider?
As i drive for a living it's nice to have as complete as possible a package, and how does the above compare to Garmin Mobile XT?

Sorry for so many questions, thanks in advance for any help.

JB
