According to the BBC, angry residents of a Buckinghamshire village blocked the driver of a Google Street View car when he started taking photographs of their homes.

Police were called to Broughton, near Milton Keynes, after residents staged the protest accusing Google of invading their privacy and "facilitating crime".

Google said it observed UK law and only filmed from public areas. The company also said it had consulted various police forces and provided the means for residents to have their home removed from the service.

The Street View mapping project allows for 360-degree views of roads and homes using footage taken by a camera mounted on a car.

See here for further information.

Regards,

If I was a burglar I'd head for Broughton, near Milton Keynes, they obviously have many goodies in their homes. Or, of course, I could just drive past taking a few pictures or video and do it that way.

As an 'ex' Londoner I've used Google Streets to 'walk' around my old haunts, many places have changed in the past 40 years but many remain as they were. Personally I love it and can't wait for it to come to Medway.

I'll be the one 'mooning' at my window with a PGPSW Speed Camera Sticker placed discretely to hide my blushes. Razz

What a bunch of idiots. They should be done for obstruction. No mention of the fact that their prissy little hamlet has been available in glorious high-res oblique imagery on Microsoft's version of Earth for months.

I and the house next door to me, have had our images removed on the grounds of safety and security. Next door is rented by a member of the diplomatic community. As an adjoining house, they asked us to have our pictures removed and we agreed.

Being chased by an angry mob with pitchforks is typical for a street photographer. There seems to be a mythical law that people want to enforce themselves that street photography is illegal. The Prime Minister's Office response to clarify the laws surrounding photography in public places states; "There are no legal restrictions on photography in public places".

From another article, I read that there's now a Twitter group filling in the places that Google have been asked to remove. Smile

Nice, I'll go and see if I can find them.

To those who ask for their images to be removed, they draw more attention to themselves than if they had left them as is!
