POI Loader cannot find device

After a year or more of successful download Garmin POI/Camera Database, suddenly I have communication problem when trying to add latest POI. PC finds My Garmin (Street Pilot i series) device, but when I click on Next the loader reports it cannot find device. "If problem persists restart device". I do this with same result. Repeated attempts show same message. Rebooting PC, substituting laptop-same result. The device is recognised by computers each time, but will not allow me to proceed with POI installation, as device not found? (The device is switched off automatically each time). Have tried other USB slots; device recognised, but unable to proceed with POI installation. Why? Any have ideas what suddenly is wrong?
