Map version numbers, I'm confused!

I'm confused, does a higher map version no. indicate a newer map?

Which is the newer map?

815.2003 or 815.2173 ??

Is there much difference? Is there is spreadsheet somewhere with all maps and their versions/history?

Its the first part of the version that is important.

ie 815.xxxx is higher than 810.xxxx

The part with xxxx is irrelevant. Those numbers vary between different devices. My go 940 has the same map as my One, but the xxxx number is different.
