I have an HP travel companion (RX5935) preinsatlled with tomtom navigator v6. Since the uk map is pretty well out of date by todays standards, has anyone replaced/removed TomTom with another PDA based satnav software e.g IGO08. If so is it painless as I am led to believe TOMTOM is embedded in the ROM? |

Its a PDA with built in GPS and lots of internal memory, but by inserting a memory card to it you could run McGuider, Co-Pilot, Route 66 etc on the device without worrying about what to do with the TT application and maps - just leave them on the device.
Once the alternate application is installed simply configure the GPS settings in the navigation software to work with the built in receiver - Mike |

Thanks, Mike for the prompt reply. Because I have only been used to TomTom (and it has served me well) which pda based sat nav programs are ones worth a look into e.g upto date maps with regular updates, post code searching able to put on Pocketgps Speed cameras, POI etc |

McGuider and Co-Pilot will do what you want, forget Route 66 if Speed Camera POI files from this site are important as it has no support for third party POI files.
Neither McGuider or Co-Pilot offer very frequent map updates, probably around a single release per year, but maps don't go too far out of date within 12 months and you will notice a big difference in mapping compared to the old maps you are currently using. McGuider use the same mapping data as TomTom - Mike |

With 2Gb of fast internal memory available in the Ipaq file store, if you delete TomTom's maps, I think that would make a more sensisble option than using an SD card. |
