Am I missing something, but what is the point of tomtom's route planner... You might as well use google maps, because you can't transfer anything from route planner to your unit. You can't even choose to avoid toll roads, like you can on your tomtom unit. |

Well aside from the obvious route planning functionality it does allow you to see live what traffic is on route according to TT's HD Service. _________________ Darren Griffin |

Conclusions to what though? The point of Route Planner? Not as good as the Paramount Comedy Channel, funny but not hilarious _________________ Darren Griffin |

Actually you can
Quote: | Can I send route information to my TomTom device?
Yes, you can send either the start or the destination of a route to your TomTom navigation device.
Note: The map on your navigation device must cover the area of the location that you are sending to your device.
Make sure that your navigation device is connected to your computer. After planning a route, do the following:
Click on a start or finish flag on the map and a balloon will appear.
Click Add to TomTom.
If installed, TomTom HOME starts on your computer and you are asked what you want to do with the location when it reaches your TomTom navigation device.
You can choose to show the location on the map, navigate to the location or add it to your Favourites.
If you choose to navigate to the location, your device may calculate a different route to that of the Route Planner due to differences in map version, Map Share downloads and IQ Routes™.
Can I send locations to my TomTom device?
Yes, you can. Make sure that your navigation device is connected to your computer. After finding a location, do the following:
Click the pushpin on the map and a balloon will appear.
Click Add to TomTom.
If installed, TomTom HOME starts on your computer and you are asked what you want to do with your location when it reaches your TomTom navigation device.
You can choose to show the location on the map, navigate to the location or add it to your Favourites.

To be fair that's not something many need to do when using a route planner though? _________________ Darren Griffin |

I generally agree that TT's route planner as conceived so far is certainly not any serious challenge to Google, Mapquest, even Yahoo maps. It's not clear to me where TomTom is trying to go with this. HDTraffic reporting is of very little use for advance planning, no way to build an itinerary, limited search capability. . . It looks like a marketing tool to advertise HDTraffic more than anything. Am I missing a reason to use it rather than one of the established web-based planners? _________________ Garmin 1695 / 255 / 760 w/MSN - Droid w/Google nav + Navigon - Navigon 8100T - Dakota10 - GPSMap76C - GeoMate Jr. |

I would tend to agree with you, however the HD Traffic information that is shown on Route Planner leaves a lot to be desired. _________________ Sat Nav of choice WAZE
