Last week my 520 started doing a really weird thing, and has not staopped since.

When navigating to a destination the device will jump to the menu screen and what looks like someone is touching the screen and going through different menu options. If i tap the "Done" button and go back to the navigation screen. The device will jump back again to the menu and go through all the options. Although the voice guidance is unaffected.

I have contacted Tomtom who told me to backup, update, run flash tool. This did not help.

I have no screen protector on the screen.

Luckily, and i was not aware, the 520 had a 2 YEAR warranty. So its now going back to Tomtom for repair.

Has anyone else had this issue and did it get resolved?

Thanks

It's quite common, and usually caused by dirt under the bezel. Running the corner of a stiffish piece of paper around between the screen and the bezel to remove any debris should cure it.

Dennis? Where's your picture?
Doing that would never invalidate a guarantee!

According to the LW-1y-English 2007_NO US CAN.doc in the Licence folder on my 720 it's a one year warranty.

I had this EXACT same problem with my 720 last week. I posted a thread about it here http://www.yournav.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=13257.

My TomTom is 17 months old and they let me send it back free of charge, they didnt replace the screen, they just flashed the ROM (not the SD card, the actual firmware on the unit itself).

It happened just after I upgraded the firmware to the latest one via TomTom Home, so Im wondering if you did the same?

Its all fine now though, but I have not connected to Home to upgrade the firmware again - Im running v7 now, as I dont trust it yet!

I tried cleaning the screen beforehand, with the card round the edge, but this wasnt down to that and gradually it was getting worse and worse.

I fixed my 720 just by running a store card all around the display just beneath the bezel surround.
I think the bezel had become a bit squashed and was putting pressure on the LCD.

It certainly won't invalidate any warranty, unless you are really careless and drop the TomTom or crack the screen.

Found it...

See what I mean about it not being anything that would invalidate a warranty? (and how would they ever know?)

That tool comes with an unconditional 5 year, unlimited mileage warranty and a certificate from TomTom saying it is Manufacturer-approved.

Trust me - I'm a whitevanman (actually an AlmostAudimettallicsilvervanman).

Buy one now - special offer price only £1.25, plus £19.63 P&P (next day delivery, additional £17.86 and transit insurance £41.57). Plus VAT (at reduced rate of 15%).

Stop it! Grrrr That's not just "a bit of paper". It's not even "just a bit of M&S paper". It's a hand crafted, unconditional 5 year, unlimited mileage warranty and a certificate from TomTom saying it is Manufacturer-approved tool for getting muck out from under yer whatsername. Some of our forum's more discerning members would probably consider it a snip and order two at the price.

Possibly you could make the offer more attractive by throwing in a free hand crafted reset tool?
