Wokingham May Retire Speed Cameras

The Wokingham Times has reported that Wokingham Borough Council will not be contributing the full £220,000 to the Thames Valley Safer Roads Partnership this year.

It is also possible that they may follow the decision by Swindon last October and pull out of the speed camera scheme altogether.

The Times add that if Wokingham council does stop working with the partnership, 37 fixed speed cameras would remain in place, but would not be operational.

With the money saved, the council hopes to roll out other safety schemes that it believes will be more effective.

More and more authorities are now starting to see that their money can be put to better uses when it comes to safety. Safety is not just about how fast one is going, you can kill a child going backwards at walking pace.

Let's see if the authorities spend a little more on other aspects of driving, not just speed.

Speed is not the be all and end all of accidents, and while they are rambling on how bad an accident has been they fail to mention the toe rag behind the wheel isn't of age to drive or got a licence to drive. Maybe now, if they have funds available, the other areas of accidents will be addressed.
