OK Nearly there now !!!

going for the 740 live ..

next couple of questions..

I subscribe to the traffic cams here -- and normally down load as Consolidated by type (Gatso,Mobile, etc) .. then I use Windows explorer to transfer them on to my maps on the SD card...

I have tried using TTHome -- but couldn't manage - so went back to the old way Very Happy

Although the 740 comes with traffic cams
-- Can I still put my subscribed ones on?
and
Does it have an SD type card ?
-- Can I install the cams with Windows Explorer the same as I do now..?

Maurice

Yes

It uses MicroSD, a smaller card. However there is plenty of room in internal memory so you don't need a memory card. Your maps will be in internal memory anyway.

Yes

My experience of TT cameras on the 540 live is a very positive one. I ran a pocketgps database loaded sat nav and mine side by side for a fortnight and saw no major differences between the two. I know most people prefer the pocketgps one but it didn't pick up any more cameras on my route than the tt database did. In fact they both missed a fixed camera thats been there for years.

Where?

I also prefer the way the TT database alerts you, I kept getting a second audio alert on the pgps cameras after I have passed them!

You don't appear to have ever had a subscription so how did you come to compare ours and TomTom's?

In Southampton couldn't tell you the road I don't drive up there often.

I was using a friends who was on holiday for a couple of weeks.

I personally have found no issues with TT cameras. Yes before the association with RA they were poor but not now. Also other things like POI's etc in my opinion have greatly improved in the live versions.

Ok, in which case as we have no way of knowing how current that database was it is far from a fair comparison. It could for all we know have been months or years old Rolling Eyes

This strikes me as a bit contradictory.

Not contradictory at all!! I have driven past this camera probably 3 or four times in the last 6 months = Not very often
I have been driving this road (not regularly) for the last 3 and a half years.=Been there for years

It has definately been there all that time.

And yet you can't locate it on a map?

It's easy to say we missed a fixed camera (hard to believe that is the case, particularly in an urban area such as Southampton) but if you can't state where so that we could check and it transpires you were using someone else's database whose currency we cannot confirm then such comments are worthless.

OK back to MY subject again -- the new [to me] 740...

I do Have a subscription to the Traffic cams -- and I down load it regularly -- just today in-fact for the 4th..

OK -- I at the moment put that on my Classic -- which when I get my NEW 740 I will put the classic in the wifes car -[Renault Megan]- we have a mount in there with an aerial as it has a reflective windscreen..

OK so far!!

Will I still be able to put the Cams on my new 740 ?
-- or will I have to do another subscription???

Another point while thinking of it
-- are the 740's better at receiving than the Classics ?
-- or will I have to get an aerial if I have a reflective windscreen..?

Sorry for being a pain !!

Maurice

Yes, up to three devices belonging to you or members of your direct family living at the same address.

They are very much better, no need for an external antenna. You'll notice a world of difference in speed to fix and sensitivity.

I didn't say I couldn't locate it I haven't even tried!
Besides I wasn't criticising your database I was saying I was happy with Tomtoms own. It has improved in the last couple of months and I wanted to share that with people.

Sorry!!!!

Well.... The TT cameras are costing you (together with other "possible benefits") some £96 a year. We currently have a special offer of ours for £16.99 a year. BUT the great thing is that if you are the first subscriber to accurately report a fixed camera which isn't on the database, you are awarded a free lifetime membership, so the cameras will cost you zilch for the rest of eternity. So that camera in Southampton which isn't on our database could earn you a lifetime free membership to this site. You'd have to gamble the cost of one year's subscription on the accuracy of your statement that the camera isn't in the pgpsw database, because you have to be a subscribed member to qualify. Have you got the nerve? Twisted Evil

Well as your so certain I'll take you word on it and assume my mates tomtom's database had errors!

Besides as I said I'm happy with Tomtom's cameras and I love google search. Also HD Traffic is great 99% of the time and fuel prices have been accurate too. I think 7.99 is too much but I'll probably still be subscribing.
I think a fiver would be nearer the mark.
