TomTom 940 Question

Hey

I was thinking of getting a TT 930T but i have found the 940 live model for a bit more but i get a £50 fuel voucher which makes its the same price. Im just wondering if the 940 do i get the traffic like on the 930t? If not at its via a mobile phone do i have to pay for it? Also is there much difference between the 930t and 940 live?

The 940 will come with a 3mth trial to the LIVE Service after which it will cost you £7.99 to continue.

If you wish to receive the RDS Traffic service you would need the accessory RDS Mount which is extra.

Discounting the LIVE services there is very little difference but the 940 is obviously more future proof than the 930.

The 930 and 940 models are very different units, the 940 has a built in SIM card and modem for its data connection, this service is free for 3 months after that you have to pay £8 per month to use it. It supplies far more than just the traffic date though, it offers destination searches via Google over the air, Weather information and some other updates over the air. The mount is considerably better being an active mount, although you might find you need to purchase an accessory mount for the true connectivity.

The 930 is a very capable device, BUT if you can get the 940 for the same or similar price and the cost of the subscription to use the Live services is bearable then the 940 is the better device - Mike

Is £333 good price for the 940 or is there cheaper places? (this is minus the 50£ free fuel voucher)

Also with the Map share technology do you have to pay for that now? Ive just been looking on the tomtom website also and there is a thing for 8£ a quarter now.. whats thats all about?

If you want to use RDS-TMC with the 940 there are three options, you can purchase the mini USB RDS receiver and connect that straight to the mount that is supplied with the 940 and it will work.
The alternate RDS receiver that uses the round plug needs an accessory mount with the extra connectors on it to use this stye of receiver.
If you don't have a mini USB style receiver the RDS equipped mount it the best solution in terms of value for money as the receiver is built in to the mount.

I have never seen a charge to partake in the Map Share scheme, this is either new or a mistake, can you provide a direct link to the TomTom web site that is "advertising" map share at £8 per quarter? This is a very poor move if true IMHO as users simply won't pay for Map Share - Mike
