Hi All,

Just bought the other half a nice little TT 3rd Edition (£80) after reading up that it could use the TT Buddies feature, bare in mind it didn't say I need anything to do this which I thought stange?

So after creating an account and setting the device up with latest updates etc I thought about the Buddies feature.

Menu, TT Services, TT Buddies

and I get a message of:-

Traffic Receiver not Connected
Please connect your Traffic Receiver

So I read up about this and think ok sommit else I need to buy (£50) Evil or Very Mad

I look on TT Support
Quote:

Version 8.010
(TomTom GO 530/730/930, GO 520/720/920, ONE 30-Series, XL 30-Series, ONE XL, ONE 3rd edition only)

Map Share support for Australia and New Zealand
USA Fuel Prices
TomTom HD Traffic Receiver support for devices listed above
Services available via HD Traffic Receiver:
HD Traffic (requires subscription)
Buddies
Weather
Weekly Safety Camera Updates (requires subscription)
QuickGPSFix
TomTom RDS-TMC Receiver (USB) support for GO 530/730/930
Minor improvements

and so after plugging in and sure enough it picks up TT Traffic ok but then when I go through the same menu for TT Buddies, I tap the screen but it doesn't go any further nor does the "My Services" button?

Unplug the RDS-TMC and same ole message of:-

Traffic Receiver not Connected
Please connect your Traffic Receiver

Where am I going wrong, or have I got to buy/subscribe to something else?

Sorry it's a bit long winded but debating what to do before i need to spend anymore money, if not it's going back!

Thanks all,

Shane

Shane, the only way that I think you could get "Buddies" working on the One Third Edition is to purchase one of the HD Traffic receivers and plug that in to the unit - there is no other connection that would achieve this functionality.

Now the sting - the HD Traffic receiver isn't available for purchase or use outside of Holland, even if you bought a Dutch receiver it won't work in the UK as they are locked to the country of purchase.

IF you are UK based then I would consider returning the device and getting a 520 from Here its not much more costly and will work with the RDS-TMC receiver you have purchased, these units won't last long at the price but considering you get the latest Map and a considerably better device in terms of capability - and via your mobile phone it will support Buddies - Mike

Hey Mike,

Long time no speak and thanks for the pompt reply.

Great deal on the 520 which tbh was the next step, use the Bluetooth and GPRS connection for her phone as I do the sae with my XDA Exec still!

The silly thing s TT still advertise this yet the HD Service is only for the LIVE versions as well according to their website.

For what I paid for hers th 520 is possibly the best bet!

Thanks Mike, help greatly appreciated and yes my subs are nearly due again Wink

Keep up the great work guys!

I think Mike means they won't be available for long at that price!
Hopefully they will actually last for ages! Very Happy

A poor choice of words on my part - the 520 is a very credible device and far more capable than the the One Third Edition which required menu hacking from the day it was put on sale to get its true capability.

I know the 520 is £24 more than what you have paid, but at least it can do what you want as well as a heck of a lot more - you might even consider retiring the Exec when you see what it can do Shocked And don't forget that the RDS-TMC receiver you have purchased will plug in to the 520 and work with it.

Should you want to use the Exec with the 520 for a data connection via Bluetooth you will need to add the Bluetooth DUN profile to your PDA phone as the connection won't work without it - easy to add to any of the HTC PDA based phones just let us know if this is the case - Mike

Nah, i'm still happy with my XDA Exec, which now has a PAYG Sim in and is only used for TT with TT Traffic & Buddies and the GPRS Connection.

Have used it no end and it worked brilliantly for our trip from the UK to Holland and then to the Nurburgring and back.

I myself sold the Nokia E90 as i didn't use it like my old Nokia 9500 and so bought a 5310, so no need to connect to the 520.

The 520 will be for the other half, hence getting the Buddies feature to work with her Samsung D900 and TT Traffic.

Again great help Mike as always, I did check the review and features of the 520 just before I hit the Buy button.

So knew you would be spot on, even if it didn't quite say that Laughing
