TomTom GPS wireless - Bluetooth dead - safe to charge?

I just received a replacement unit from TomTom. The previous unit had the permanent green light problem. Apparently this new unit is better than the previous one - this gets a fix quicker and the behaviour of the leds is nicer as well.

Is it safe to keep the unit on the charger always? Or will that break even this revised unit?

It's never advisable to keep any device permanently connected to a power supply meant for charging purposes only. Many manufacturers advise that you should disconnect the charge cable before starting the engine to avoid power spikes etc.

I guess it's not advisable.. But I've never had this kind of problem with any other devices. My TomTom GPS broke at home, so it wasn't related to engine start spikes (at least I think so).
