I know this is an ancient subject but I am having the same problems with my 710. Can't find a signal.

I am new to the file changing issues do I leave the TXO1c and just delete evrything else and add TXO1C11110?
Many thanks
Eric

The updated Navcore software messes up a file needed for the RDS-TMC to work, connect the device to the PC and use Windows Explorer to view the contents of the memory card.

In the root of the card will be a file named "mctx.dat" right click this and choose "Open With" then select NotePad.

The contents if messed up will look like:
TX01CVε .PQ'ξVN$dydGz~z

You need to delete all that rubbish and put "22220" (without the quotes) in, save the file and your unit should now work with the RDS receiver - Mike

On my 910 I have always used 11110 which works a lot better. There an excellent thread about it on the forums which is worth searching for.
I am pretty sure the it is the same for all the X10 Tomtoms'.

No, delete the first (TX01C) part. The file should just contain the number 11110
Alternatively you can try 11111 or 22222
If I remember correctly 22222 looks for Classic FM stations whilst 11111 or 11110 look for local radio stations to find the traffic data.
I am using 11111 on a GO 710 and it works well.

Does anyone know if this alteration would help with reception on a 940? My Live subscription expires tomorrow and I am loathe to renew until I know for sure that my 940 will work with the update due (allegedly) in Feb-my 940 doesn't like 9.058.

But isn't RDS TMC, the subject of these posts, free?

Yes that's why I intend using it instead of giving TT any more of my money until they provide a service that works.

I don't think that this alteration would help with reception on a 940. The 940 uses much later software than the 710.

TomTom messed up and issued a modern mctx.dat file to 710 users who didn't have modern software to read the new data that the file contained. To get RDS TMC to work on these old device the file needs changing back to the older format.

Newer devices like the 940 need the newer mctx.dat file. Reception with all devices is patchy.

Trying to use an RDS receiver with the 940 offers two options:

1/ The aux mount with an RDS receiver built in, very difficult to find one new these days.

2/ Mini USB equipped RDS receiver.

The older RDS receivers with a round connector won't work with an x40/ x50 - Mike

Hi Pcaoulte,
Thanks for the info, I have found the reception to be patchy and wondered if the new data might help that, but from what you have said it wouldn't. Thanks anyway.

Mike, I already have the aux mount with the receiver built in. Thanks also for your response.

Hi, I have been reading this topic with some interest so I decided to have a look at my 520 and sure enough it had the long line of swirls and dots has you described. So I decided to follow your instructions to get the RDS to connect. But after trying all the permutation's of 11110,22222 Etc it still will not connect to a traffic signal.
I presumed that it would (should) work on my 520, it has App 8.351 installed and UK maps 875.36.

Have I jumped the gun and got the wrong devise?

The 520 requires the version of the file with all the "swirls and dots" the version with the 11111 or 22222 only works on older machines which are still running app version 7.903

oops!!!! If I copy and paste the swirls and dots from a previous reply do you think it may reinstall the original contents?.
Saying that it wouldn't make much difference anyway as it never logged on before I messed with it.
I bought it originally with a XXL, and it works well with that, it logs on almost straight away, but it would be handy if it worked with the 520.

Might do... but I wouldn't be at all surprised if it didn't.

Safer bet - PM me with your email address and I'll send you the (never touched) mctx.dat file from my son's Go520.

Thanks again Andy, I used your son's file but it still won't log onto the signal. It was connected for about two hours yesterday and all it did was search for a signal. I travelled all over south yorks but at no point did it lock onto anything. But just to prove to myself that there was a signal when I got home I connected my XXL and it found the signal within about two minuets. So it more or less proves it's the 520 that's not set up correctly.

I contacted TT just for the hell of it and the best they could come up with was to do a reset (didn't work).
