Use a paperclip to reset the device, the reset switch is on the base of the unit, you won't lose any settings and it should cure the computer connection issue - Mike |

I am not 100% if this will help, but if you hav'nt done so already, try installing the TomTomHome program that will be on the CD or downloadable from the website

Once you've got it connected to the computer, make sure you make a back-up (using Windows Explorer) BEFORE YOU DO ANYTHING ELSE! |

Thanks for the advice, up and running and have backed up to the computer, the external HDD and TomTom Home so should be fully covered. TomTom Home wants to download a whole pile of things - is there anything to be worried about in terms of disk space on the 530? or should I just go ahead and download the latest maps and traffic etc?
Also, can I keep it plugged into the cradle which is plugged into the computer when I'm not taking it in the car? Just wondered if it was safe and whether I needed to do anything with it before shutting the computer down? Does it automatically do its own shut down when it receives the message saying the computer is shuting down?
Thanks for the continued support and advice! Its very much appreciated!!

I run a 520 which, to all intents and purposes, is exactly the same as a 530. I've never had any problems with space. The only thing I tend not to download, and I download most updates that are offered.
I also often keep mine in its cradle (switched off, but charging), and so far haven't experienced any problems. When you do update it with Home, make sure you disconnect the device using the software before physically removing it from the cradle. |

Natalia, make sure you update the application first (unless you already have version 8.3) before you use the latest map guarantee, otherwise you won't get the latest map (815)
My 720 lives permanently in the cradle except for the 2 or 3 times a year when I actually use it. That way it stays fully charged. You only need to worry about disconnecting it if you have turned it on and let it connect to the computer. I usually go into Computer in Vista (My Computer in XP) right click and select eject. Disconnecting through HOME or clicking Safely Remove Hardware doesn't seem to work properly and either makes the device perform a reset or I have to do one myself. _________________ TT Go Essential |
