For the last year or so I have used TT traffic on my trusty TT one V2 via my Nokia 6300 Orange PAYG phone without too many issues. Now for reasons known only to its self my phone now shows "Data packet access point not valid" whenever it tries to get an update. No changes have been made to the phone, the only change to the TomTom I can think of recently was the update to version 7.903. I have spoken to Orange support, they are about as much use as a chocolate fireguard.

Any thoughts, advice would be welcomed.

Regards and best wishes for the New Year to you all.

Roger

Update, just tried and old backup version 7.161 - same error so it looks like an Orange issue to me

The orange PAYG internet settings changed a while back or at least I had to change APN and delete the username (was gprs) and password.

APN = orangeinternet
user=
password=

Thanks for that, got a little further this time. No error on phone this time it said creating connection but now says on TT Unable to set up your wireless data connection. Do you want to change your settings?

I have not connected my Go's through Orange PAYG (only my PDA) but it would not surprise me if the default settings that TomTom have for Orange PAYG are out of date or for the contract service.

You probably will need to change your settings in TomTom as it also has the APN, username and password stored in it, so let it try and if it fails on the auto TT recommended settings and asks for manual settings, the critical ones are the APN (orangeinternet), no username and no password, everything else should normally be be auto or default. You should not need the AT+CONT.... string and the *99***5# (I use *99#)

No joy so far, I will try to get hold of another brand of SIM to confirm that it is an Orange issue.

Thanks for your help I will keep you posted

Remember that if you change your SIM in the phone, the TT unit will need setting up again for that SIM in the phone, even if the phone is already paired.

See if the phone will connect to the Internet on its own which will show if it is an Orange fault.

Finally managed to get it working again, changed phone to old Motorola V3, same SIM, same routine. Worked first time. Spooky! Rolling Eyes

Why the 6300 stopped working is a bit of a mystery, I will have to revisit when I get a moment.

Thanks to Mr T for your help.
