Hi, I am a new user thinking of buying my first SatNav. I'm interested in subscribing to this database but have the following question...
How are SPECS cameras presented whilst driving? i.e. are you made aware of the fact there is a 'set' as you approach the first one? Does it tell you how many there are? Does it tell you you've passed the last one?
Advanced warning of a single camera location is one thing, but SPECS are a bit different, aren't they! Any advice / explanation would be much appreciated.
Thanks! |

First post, welcome!
A lot depends on the device you have and whose data? In general you receive a warning for each SPECS camera, few devices are able to offer the functionality to warn of the start and end of the zone.
Our database would give you warnings for every camera in the SPECS zone and if you used the speed zoned database it would have speed as well. Coupled with a real voice warning on a TomTom you would get:
"WARNING - Average Speed Camera Zone - Speed Limit 50mph"
That ought to be enough warning for most! _________________ Darren Griffin |

Hi Darren,
Thanks for the quick response!
Whenever I use the A14 near Cambridge, I can never remember how many more SPECS units there are (it seems like they add a new one each time!). I am thinking of getting a TomTom GO 730, but I called a Snooper distributor a while back and they said that it would give a warning on entering a SPECS zone and how many cameras there were...
Torn between Snooper (who seem the most dedicated to cameras, but also seem to be only represented online through 'distributors') and TomTom (who are the market leaders, but have no details on camera coverage.
Hence why I am considering your database... |

Snooper's navigation devices aren't great, they may have more speed camera 'features' but the navigation side is important after all.
I can appreciate your dilemma with regards to SPECS but the system should give you enough of a reminder and the device will show you the enforced road speed anyway.
Ongoing support is important, how much would a Snooper cost for updates as well? _________________ Darren Griffin |
