Many thanks jonandmarkuk. Once I knew you hadn't had any problem with installation, I looked for something odd. Sure enough, I have been using the original 2GB Navigon card, and it was EXACTLY full after the file load . Not all the files had loaded (no error message of course!). A 4GB card did the trick and everything's loaded nicely now.
Thanks again,
David
One of the first things I did was to get a new SD card and keep the origonal Navigon one safe out of the way.
Maybe Navigating.de should mention that as a possible issue.
Have to say I'm impressed they have replied to my problem with installing the speed cam data from the site and given me a different way to install... however since I now have PGPSW data warners I don't think I really need to duplicate the entries?? _________________ Navigon 8450 LIVE
Just been a further drive with Poi-Warner on and it seems to work fine. I used the POI-Warner to find Costco and then transfer the route into the saved routes.
POI's pop up on the side bar along the way, only thing I need to figure out is how to increase the volume, the Sat Nav instructions are nice and loud but I struggled to hear the WAV files I had created as warnings.
As I apporoached one speed camera (was turning off before I reached the 30mph section) it gave a nice warning to remind me I was going too fast.
Pleased this has given new life to my 8110 which Navigon seem to have little interest in at the moment
Just need to figure out the volume and tweek some of the warning radious.. also need to turn off the warnings on my car sat nav as going got a bit crazy with bells and whistles going off in the car all over the place (coming from different speakers) _________________ Navigon 8450 LIVE

Has anyone loaded any converted wav files into POI Warner successfully? I converted some TT ogg files and put them into the Warner pois folder with everything else, but they don't show up in the wav list in the Warner menu when I 'browse' (ie press the "..." button) to set up the warning message - I can't type any filename in either. A number of other (mainly Windows) wav files do get listed, but I can't see them when I connect back to the PC and check the 8110's POI Warner folder, so I'm not sure if I've put my wav files in the right place (I put them in with the PGPSW data & icon files).
Any thought please?
Cheers. _________________ David

Thanks for that jonandmarkuk, I'll see how I get on this time (I did use Audacity but just took the default output wav format - I'll check). _________________ David

However it's not as complicated as it first seems. It was my own stupid fault as to why I couldn't get the PGPSW speed cams and other POI's onto the Navigon.
Once I figured out what I was doing wrong, it's really quite straightforward to use. _________________ Navigon 8450 LIVE

I agree with jonandmarkuk, I also had to work through a couple of issues which weren't too obvious (but still weren't too complicated). I still haven't got a sync connection to the linked POI websites but I'm not really bothered about sorting that out at present as I'm not sure I'll use them, and a manual load can always be done anyway.
I would suggest in the meantime, if you haven't already done it, read through the quickstart and full guides a couple of times to get an overall picture of what there is. Then install it and raise any queries/problems here and you should get some help. I've just been out on a drive and found I had to make some adjustments - a bit of a suck it and see. navigating.de are also very quick at responding to any questions
What I WOULD say is if you really like your own POIs, this is WELL worth going for. PoiEdit and Audacity convert pretty well any data/voices you'll find on here (so you can convert the Garmin/TomTom voices for example) or elsewhere, eg MaFt's very good site, so there's plenty of scope. _________________ David

We maybe all shocked that Navigon have provided a software update for the 8110. No clue what is changes but at least the device hasn't been forgotten about.
However a quick heads up is after the update, PoiWarner will not run on startup.
Don't worry though, after the Navigon software has updated look on the C drive of your PC for the 'updateme.exe' within the PoiWarner install folders.
Copy this file to the Navigon, and on re-start PoiWarner will spring back into life _________________ Navigon 8450 LIVE

Thanks for the info and warning! After a lifetime in IT, always taking a calm look at any problems, I seem nowadays to be reduced to a panic as soon as something stops working, so you've probably given me a couple of extra years!
Manual is still April 2008, so user-oriented changes seem an optimistic hope again at present. Still, I'll email the help desk to induce them to send me the latest usual 'no information, but we continually upodate and improve our products' nonsense, and to let them know there are still interested punters out here.
Still, as you say, at least they are doing something . _________________ David

Okay, I've tried to make this POI-Warner thing work for me, but I can't.
The low sound (which makes no sense because it's full volume in the "Options" menu option) I could compensate for by making my own wav files.
The tortuious installation process (where do you install the overlay files - in the POI folder on the PC or on the Navigon? The manual doesn't make it clear), I could live with as I don't update the overlays too often.
But this, I can't stomach:
- on my 2110, POI-Warner seems to lock up the GPS recevier. Basically, journey home from work - fine. Journey into work - the Navigon can't pick up a GPS signal, and POI Warner also isn't working, even though it's got the green light in the corner. My unit has occassionally failed to find a GPS signal requiring a reset, but this is happening every day now that POI-Warner is installed.
So, to solve this requires a "restore to factory settings", then the process of setting up the Navigon's options from scratch, but, and here's the kicker - this makes POI-Warner work fine, but Navigon now reports a missing or broken GPS (-1 shown for number of satellites and -1.0 shown for HDOP). So, the POI-Warner's spillter has to be run again which can just about be done while on the move, but this then requires a reset and that's impossible on the motorway because it's just too dangerous and the reset button is obscured by the holder anyway!
My unit has gone through the pattern three days in a row now.
Not a happy bunny. I think I'm going to have to restore the Navigon to before POI-Warner was on it and forget about POI-Warner altogether. This means I'll need my old tomtom in the car also because, although it has a terrible interface, it at least works well for POI warnings with nice clearly audiable and reliable warnings.
If you also add in the fact that tomtom's itms(?) traffic information seems to product much better quality information than the Navigon's, then the Navigon's just really dissappointing. A *lovely* interface, nice indsutrial designm but marred by missing functionality.
I had thought that, with POI-Warner and the text to speach option, I'd have a really nice unit - in fact the threads on here about the POI-Warner convinced me to buy the Navigon in the first place. But it seems not to be.

First of all, if you haven't asked navigating.de about this, I would suggest you do - they always reply fairly promptly (though admittedly their proposed solutions don't always work!).
I don't know if your main problem is related to the Serliot setup? Using the default configuration, it appears to disable the phone connection on my 8110. They suggested
Quote:
you can try to set the bottom port in the serliot settings to a different one, that may work.
.
As I don't use the phone connection, this isn't a real problem at the moment, so I haven't tried it out yet, but maybe this would for you.
While I am here, I wonder if anyone can answer a question for me . I can't get the sync to work between my PC and the 8110 (either XP or Vista) - Activesync/Mobile Device won't recognise the 8110 and POIWarner Synctool either bombs out (if the unit is connected) or when it offers a choice of drives to look for the POIWarner data and I THEN connect the satnav, it does not offer me the drive the satnav is on and still doesn't find anything. It's just the same if I put the HDSD card (a 4gb one) direct into the computer's card reader slot (their suggestion that didn't work ). . Again it's not a BIG deal at the moment, as I can add in the files I want manually, but it's irritating - any ideas please? _________________ David
