Hi all again
Further to my original post (unlock speed cameras) here is the state of play so to speak
I subscribed to the data base and downloaded the cameras
I then copied them to the sd card as per the instructions
According to tom tom home they are all on the card
This week end I ran a few short journeys around my area past a number of cameras and zilch. No sign of any warnings at all
I installed the tom tom card (which has a slightly older map which came with the device) than the one in my old 1715 cpoied the cameras over again
Same result nothing showed when I went on a couple of further trips
So if anyone has any further ideas on why these cameras don't work I will be very gratefull.

Did you configure the warn when near POI option for each speed camera category you have installed?
Change Preferences/ Manage POI/ Warn When Near POI, scroll down the list and select the speed camera files one at a time until they are all configured - Mike |

That was fast I wasn't expecting a reply. I think that option is selected ok now if it wasn't before. it will be a day or two now before I can run another test but by the weekend I should know if it is working and will let you all know many thanks

Just plan a test route on the device (AtoB or Advanced Planning):
Set a departure point as FY43NN house 95
Set a destination point as PR41AX house 33 (if it lets you)
When it has planned the route select "Details" from the summary screen.
Now select "Show Route Demo" set the speed to 100% and sit back and watch, you will get at least 3 camera warnings in the first couple of minutes, all without wasting fuel or going out in the cold - Mike |

Hi all
Thanks for the further tips posted here
So far still nothing. No sign of any speed cameras anywhere
The device is an IPAQ 5720
However when following Mike's post I did get an option to choose the warning sound I wanted ( but still no go)
I do have POI's enabled and they are ticked.
I have scrolled through the list but I cannot see a speed camera POI at all
Tom Tom home says the files are there in the sd card though
I printed the instructions out and followed them when I installed the files
So if anyone can tell me what is wrong I will as usual be very grateful but I am beginning to think this is all a waste of time and effort now. Wish I had had the battery fixed in the 1715 as that device worked fine

What software version are you running, tap the sat strength meter followed by the version box and it will say something like 5,21 or 6,010.
5,21 had a custom POI limit of only 39 categories before you hit problems
6,xx had a custom POI limit of 100 categories before the same problem
next see how many POI files are actually on the device - Mike |

Hi Darren
Thanks for the reply
I know what you mean that they seem condradictory but here is what i have
Tom Tom home lists 31 files under the map
They all start Great Britain map\Pocket GPS UK and then there are
Gatso 20,30,40 etc and then a load of mobiles and then pmobiles and then specs so I assume all these are the correct files
The POI's I have on the device when I look start with
Airport
Amusment park
Beach
There is no PocketGPS file anywhere in the POI list.
Police station is the only PO

Please do the following...
Ignore "Home" for this exercise. If it starts up when you connect the Go to the PC, shut it down.
Using Windows Explorer, browse to the drive letter that Windows has given the TomTom.
Open the NAMED map folder (Western Europe, Great Britain etc.)
Scroll down and look for files beginning with "Pocket GPS..."
There should be a whole bunch.... some ending .ov2 and some ending .bmp.
If those are not there, you haven't successfully installed them. |

Hi all
OK I will answer all the points raised so far (I hope)
The version on the PDA is listed as version 6.1 (under the sat window)
I navigate to the maps as follows by clicking
My computer
Mobile device (it is an icon)
My windows mobile based device (same looking icon)
Storage card folder
Great Britain folder
This then opens with a whole list of things beginning with
CLINE DAT
CNAME DAT.....................
After the Great Britain maps are all the pocket GPS files
The very last file is named TRAFFIC DAT
So have I put them in the right place??
In the storage card folder
Whether this is relevant I am not sure but I have a folder called 2577 as the first folder in and inside there there are three files called
GPS.CAB
TTN.CAB
WZD.CAB
They all appear as winrar files (3 books tied together)
should these be unzipped??
The card in the device is the one that came with the device. I have not added or altered anything except the pocket gps speed camera files
Just plugged it in and used it
Hope all this can throw some light on it

Using the same method, can you:
1. Give an example of the FULL name of one or two of the files starting with "PocketGPS...."
2. Count the number of files in the same map folder ending in .ov2
If I remember rightly all versions of Navigator 6 alowed 100 .ov2 files (am I right there, Mike?) |

I have a total of 31 files all ending in ov2
pocketgps_uk_gatso_20.ov2
pocketgps_uk_gatso_30.ov2
and so on
pocketgps_mobile_60.ov2
They all follow this format for their groups
This is proberly completely as it should be but each file has an associated little graphic icon file as well with the same name ending in bmp and the Gatso ones are 1.47KB while the data files are different sizes and they all have the windows wavy flag icon as do all the data files
The last file which I assume is the original tom tom camera traffic cameras file has the window circle with the triangle in but the unit cannot see that either but it can see the POI DAT file which is also in the folder almost alongside it. I do see the little garage/petrol station etc icons appear on the map when using the device
If I go to the manage POI section on the device then only Warn & Add Category are working
Add Edit Delete & Delete Categary are greyed out

Edward, tap the sat strength meter (lower Right) followed by the version box, on the presented screen will be some information about the actual map in use - is this map named "Great_Britain" or something else - I am just wondering if you have a different map selected to the folder you have put the POI Files into - Mike |
