I have a Nokia 5210 and have downloaded the speed cam operating system which works with Nokia Maps, all fine so far, I have also loaded the OLD POCKET GPS FILE to try it out (An old pocketgps_uk_sc.csv file that can be used to try out the application is available free in: http://www.pocketgpspoi.com/downloads/pocketgps_uk_sc_oct05.zip as recommended and followd the instruction to install it as a renamed file speedcam.txt in the speedcam folder.
None of the camera warnings are given, I guess indicating that the data base is not loaded properly or not able to be read.

Anybody got any ideas?? Thanks

Normally this is because the file is named incorrectly, check you have file extensions set to 'show' as it may actually be named speedcam.txt.txt

Hi Darren

Apologies the phone is a Nokia 6210 Navigator, I have purchased the latest camera data base and renamed to speedcam.txt and put it in the speedcam folder on the memory card, which also has the sclang.txt in it.

It still doesnt give any warnings of sites as I drive by speed cameras.

I have checked using Nokia PC Suite and it is named correctly as speedcam.txt.

I still think it has to be the fact that it is not recognising the location of the data base, but how can I fix it??

Just a thought is the file you have re-named now "speedcam.txt.csv" as this can cause issues, Windows doesn't let you view file extensions by default, start Windows Explorer and go to Tools/ Folder Options, select the "View" tab and make sure:

Show hidden files and folders IS Selected
Hide extensions for known file types IS NOT Selected

You should now see the true file name, and view this with the file on the PC using Windows Explorer by by some communication program that could throw further errors in to the file name, once you are 100% sure the file name is indeed correct copy it back to the phone and try it again - Mike

Thanks for replying

I have checked and have those settings already set. Its still not working.

Will the Nokia maps or Speed Cam Data Base show camera locations without the need to drive past the locations??

Can I assume that the operating system is ok - it overlays Nokia Maps and I can see the various presentations as per the instructions, the only I dont have is the warnings which I can only assume is tha data base.

Should the operating system know where to fing the data base on the memory card automatically?? If so should I try reloadind the operating system??

STARTING UP
USING INTEGRATED GPS - LOADED 15 LANDMARKS - LOAD SPEED CAM DATA - NO SPEEDCAM FILE

So I guess thats the problem confirmed, how can I get it to recognise the Speedcam File??? I have set it up as per instrctions.

Not sure if I can be of any help here but I have just two files in the "SpeedCam" folder.

These are "scLang.txt" and "speedcam.txt"

The latter is the file downloaded from the Speed camera database from this site, unzipped (with IZArc) and then renamed from "pocketgps_uk_masters_and_pmobile.txt" to "speedcam.txt"

The application insisted on being installed to my N95 internal memory but the "SpeedCam" folder is happy to reside on my memory card.

The archive that I downloaded included an example speedcam file. It contains a slectioin of points around the High Wycombe/Maidenhead area. Maybe someone could send you a file containing a camera of each type around your area for testing purposes?

I can't find the web page that I downloaded the original archive from, I am sure it came from the Nokia Beta site and I had to get it signed by symbian before I could install it.

It works, gives you an arrow pointing towards the location and a description as you approach and an optional audible warning. Trouble I find (and why I rarely use it) is that the screen is too small to be read easily at a glance

Let me know if I can offer any more info

Rick

Speed Camera Warning application for Nokia Series 60 3ed phones

The link posted for the sample file takes you to the PGPSW Speedcam download page, but there is an included file as I mentioned above

Hi Rick-uk

I hace downloaded from that same site, the only difference is I cant find the EXAMPLE SPEEDCAM FILE that it talks about.

I have the identical set up to you with the operating system on the internal memory with the SpeedCam on the external memory card. It self installed the SpeedCam file with the scLang.txt, I unzipped and renamed the data base to speedcam.txt and drag and dropped into the SpeedCam folder.

As I say, the overlay works with Nokia Maps fine but no warnings of locations- when I start the programme up it says NO SPEEDCAM FILE - I must have done something wrong but I cant figure out what. When I look at the memory card on the computer I have the "scLang.txt" and "speedcam.txt" in the Speedcam file.

Where did you find the example Speedcam file - did it automatically download and where to??

That's because it references a file we removed long since.

There are other users here with it working, sadly I don't have a Nokia on which I could test to fathom out where you are going wrong, the file name has been an issue before with some (whose file extensions were hidden) had found their file was named speedcam.txt.txt as a result.

The example speedcam file is included in the archive you can download

Extract the example file, rename to speedcam.txt, place in the SpeedCam folder on your phone or memory card.

As mentioned by Mike above if you have extensions hidden in Windows Explorer there is a danger of it being renamed incorrectly (to speedcam.txt.txt) for example)

You could always copy the un-renamed file to the phone and then rename it with either Nokia's own filemanager or yBrowser.

Try putting the files straight into the SpeedCam folder, if they are contained in any sub folder then the application simply won't see the files - Mike

Darren,

I know that there have been various discussions about provide example files in the past to prove how good the database is, but what about one to allow testing in this type of situation. I would suggest that an idea would be to use (what I believe is) Mike's test route. If we could create a small file with the cameras along that route (available for, say, TT and Garmin - others could be added as required) and a page of instructions, this would allow testing (for this type of situation or for "how do I check my voice warnings" type queries) and demonstration. Another idea would be to produce a set of completely dummy cameras along a straight road (A40 springs to mind but any long straight road would do) and produce from-to instructions to cover those cameras. I'm thinking that a long straight road would cut down on possible "alternative route missed the cameras" scenarios!

I think I am getting somewhere, just found the example speedcam file and dragged to the SpeedCam folder, renamed to speedcam.txt and it recognises it, on start up I now have -LOADED 6 RECORDS/PROCESSED DATA.
These are the files I have from the data base which came in this folder - pgpsw-speed-cams-ZjExd.zip

Release.txt (176b),
_Need_Help.htm (51KB),
Licence.txt (8KB),
pocketgps_uk_masters_and_pmobile.bmp (), pocketgps_uk_masters_and_pmobile.txt (356KB),
pocketgps_uk_sc.bmp (389b),
pocketgps_uk_sc.txt (327KB

After I have unzipped the folder and dragged it to the Speedcam folder on the memory card do I rename pgpsw-speed-cams-ZjExd.zip to speedcam.txt (which is what I have done) or one of the files only.
I have tried dragging just the 7 filed to the speedcam folder but it still doesnt work.
I think I am being a bit of a bimbo and probably doing something stupid.
