Hi, I have just bought a 4 Gb SD Card To use with my Garmin 660.
I would like to put any future downloads onto this card from a named directory folder on my desktop.(So that i dont swamp the Garmin memory) If i do this do i just insert this card into my garmin unit without downloading the update physically into my Garmin unit.and will this procedure work O.K.
I am a newby with satnav's so any help is appreciated.
Regards Roy.

Couple of things...

Can the 660 see a 4Gb Card? Or is it one of the rarer non-SDHC formats - which "may" be OK.

I use a 2Gb card to put things like Road Tours on as the mapping fits (just about with 2009 Europe) on the main unit. I have taken off unwanted voice files and the 'free' MP3/audio books etc.

On your SD card; create a Garmin folder at the top level. After you have done this it will be recognised as a 'GARMIN' device by their utilities (POILoader etc) which makes it easier (and quite a bit faster) to use in a card reader from your PC

You can put mapping on it (using MapSource or MapInstaller) and it doesn't appear to be any slower using maps from the SD. I have never tried POIs on SD card - but I'm sure someone here will have done. YOu can store MP3s and audio books on the SD card also.
