I tried app 8.20 (for 940) on my 920 and I like the new icons etc. etc. but because I don't have traffic antenna or subscription I was wondering if there was a way to remove traffic option so that you don’t get the slide bar on your screen

Also is there a way to have FM working not for instructions but for audible books or MP3

Have you tried the disable traffic button?

TomTom Traffic (on menu page 3), next page on traffic, then disable traffic.

Go into preferences, page 6 speaker preferences, select the instructions you want then the next page for music etc.

FM output for instructions and for mp3s are set up in two separate pages in "Speaker Preferences"
Though to be honest, I'm surprised you still have the ability to have instructions over FM as they are stripping that out of all recent software for what they believe are legal reasons.

Does that apply to the x20 TomTom or just the x40? - I have a 520 running 8.204 (previously 8.203) & have never had the Traffic sidebar.

It applies to the x40 although I have now discovered that if your subscription to the Live services lapses then the traffic bar disapears unless you plug an RDS-TMC receiver in to the 940 - Mike

No you mis understood I don't have the ability to have instructions over FM with 8.020 it is that the FM icon is grayed out.

When I tried 8.020 on my 920 I did have the Traffic Bar on the screen and I have never had RDC-TMC receiver pluged in nor have I ever had a subscription to the Live services and I don't plan to as the area I live in doesnt require it.

I was just hoping I could remove or disable the Traffic Bar

Ahh I see.
Just a guess, but as the 540 and 740 don't have a jukebox feature at all, I assume they have no FM transmitter either?
If you are using software intended for the x40 range, it probably checks to see if you have a 940 and if not, it disables the FM.
