|
|
Hey Guys,
I now have a 720 and a 920 running NA v815 maps.
If i make a map correction on one of them, is it possible to then copy that file to the other unit?
What i'm trying to avoid is having to do corrections twice, so my thinking was if i just do corrections on one of them and then hopefully copy and paste the relevant file to the other unit.
Is it possible? _________________ Go 720 v8.351 GPS v1.20 Boot 5.5120

Good question.... as they are both the same map essentially, I don't see why you can't do it. You may even be able to syncronise the two map folders. If you make extra copies of your backups to play with, you should find out quite quickly if you can do it or not. Don't try to change anything on your original backup though! _________________ TT Go 720 (T)

Is there a particular file where the changes are saved?
If so i'm hoping i could just copy and paste to the other. _________________ Go 720 v8.351 GPS v1.20 Boot 5.5120

They are stored in the map folder and downloaded corrections are in MapServerPatch.dat and the ones you make are stored in MapUserPatch.dat.
There are some other files that are related and created at the same time so they may need to be coped as well: PatchFilter.dat, ServerNameIndex.dat and ServerLineIndex.dat |

Thanks for the pointers MrT (aint gonna get me on no plane....crazy fool)
With this in mind i decided to do some playing:-
On my 720 i backed up the NA map folder as of today on the PC.
I then went in and chaged the name of one road on the unit?
I then compared the NA map file on the 720 with what i had just copied.
Only 2 files had changed to todays time and date. They were:-
MapSettings.cfg
MapUserPatch.dat
So i thought i had it sorted, with this knowledge i copied the 2 files to my 920.
I then went in to check the renamed road i had done on the 720 and suprise suprise it still had the old name on the 920.
It didn't work, any idea's ? _________________ Go 720 v8.351 GPS v1.20 Boot 5.5120

Any chance some of the more knowledgable people on here could maybe take another look at this?
It sure would make life easy for me if i could update both units!

Do both units have the same NA map or is there a difference in folder size? - Mike |

It seems that the file in the map directory MapUserPatch.dat refers to changes in the file in the root directory called UserPatch.dat which actually contains the details of the changes. If you delete MapUserPatch.dat it appears to recreate itself. Try and copy both these files at the same time. |

Hi Mike, Yes i have a 720 & 920 both with NA815 maps as per my signature.
Mr T, let me get this right, you think i should try copying the Root file "userpatch.dat" & the map file "mapuserpatch.dat" ?
Thanks for the help guys _________________ Go 720 v8.351 GPS v1.20 Boot 5.5120

Keep copies of both original versions of these files before you copy as it seem the one in the map directory updates itself to reflect the one in the root directory. If you delete either file they recreate themselves but if you do not have a matching pair you seem to lose the changes.
I have not copied across devices but I have removed the root directory file which removed all my changes. When I restored it, my changes were not visible again until I also restored the map directory file.
It also needs to reboot after copying the files before the corrections are visible. |
