I don't know if the 520 is the same but mine switches to night mode or day mode when I am holding it in my hand indoors. I just tried it and it switched to night mode, I then put it under a desk lamp and it switched to day mode in 5 seconds.

The x20 and the x30 never had an active mount though so it behaves differently than the x10 and x40 units - Mike
