If you have an athermic windscreen, you can use an external antenna without having to stick it to the outside of your car Very Happy

On my Renault Laguna II Sports Tourer there is a section either side of the rear view mirror that does not have the metallised layer.
This is area is designed for toll tags and automatic door transmitters etc…

Run the cable through the dashboard, up the door pillar rubber, under the front of the roof lining and stick the external GPS received in this area using a black outdoor sticky pad (stick reciever facing up, not up-side-down).

By doing this, my wiring is completely hidden.

I’ve been using my antenna in this location since I had a TomTom Go 300 years ago and I get a fantastic signal all the time Very Happy

I hope this helps someone.

P.S. Unfortunately you're screwed if you have a TMC reciver as TomTom generously only give you a few centimetres of cable Sad

P.P.S. My Trumpion is completely unaffected by athermic windscreens Very Happy

We've mentioned this many times previously Smile Often the lower left and right corners work fine too.

Thankfully the issue of athermic windscreens affecting reception is rapidly becoming a thing of the past. With the advent of SirfStarIII and newer receivers it is no longer a problem.
