The really strange thing about the stutter issue is when you compare the x20/ x30 with the x40 - same processor, same memory, very similar capability although the x40 has slightly more to do in terms of functionality - the x40 doesn't stutter. - Mike

So 2 possible lines of thought open up from this:

x40 has some hardware assist in it that has to be done in s/w on x20/x30? Seems unlikely. E.g. the gyro would mean more s/w in x40 not less.

What has been dropped from x20/x30 that's not on x40 AND is non-operable on x20/x30 when running 8.x app from the x40. I.e. is no longer present in x40 code? Is there anything? TMC support obviously but not all of us have TMC receivers, so I would not expect related code to be active without a receiver present. is there anything else?

For me the trigger seems to be playing mp3s over Bluetooth and going anywhere near a roundabout or other "complicated" junction.

I have a horrendous stutter most of the time. Bluetooth is switched off and I don't do mp3's.

Can someone advise me whats the best way to go with this. im running a 720 app 8320 & map v815.2003 using computer voice kate.
Would really appreciate any help on this

As long as you are running the version 7 Kate TTS voice with that combination it is about the best you can make out of a pigs ear to be honest - Its the same combination I have on my device at the moment - Mike

I got fed up with 8,300 around Christmas so started playing around with this, once the 8,301 was released I tried it for a few days and noticed it was no better than the 8,300 it superseded, so I have gone back to 8,320 on the devices and they are useable again - Mike

I have gone back to 8.204 from the 940 on my 920 with TTS7 voices. Seems to be quicker on the map refresh and route calculation speed than 8.320.

Andy

I am running 8.204 on my 920 as well, but EPT does not work. Is that the same for you?

Try the 8,320 release on the device and EPT should work fine Wink - Mike

Hi Infama
The 8.204 runs perfectly on my TomTom 720 too. I am fully aware that its not the correct application for my device but like you I don’t want to give it up either. The Icons look very good and the whole thing looks quite professional.

Is there a simple way we can update to 8.320 and re-install the parts from 8.300 that have the new icons and new TT voice Kate?. I too am very reluctant to update and lose my new icons and voices etc.

Hi batties
No, I’m afraid that would require more expertise than I possess. However, I have no doubt someone will give you an answer.

I seemed to have stumbled on the circumstance that causes the stuttering problem (or at least makes it more likely to happen) on my 920T
(I'm running 8.301 and the Kate v7 voices at the moment).

OK, so firstly it does seem to require a certain road pattern and road name complexity to occur, but I have found a particular section of road that I can reliable cause stuttering in the Demo mode.
This has allowed me to experiment and it 100% reliably stutters on this test *only* when the unit is Charging.
Now, here's the important bit, I don't mean while it's plugged into the power, but when the unit actually says it's "Charging" under the battery icon on the info screen.

Now the next intereting thing I noticed is, even if the battery is not 100% charged, if I turn the brightness of the screen up to 100%, even though it is plugged into the power, my 920T does *not* say it's "Charging".

So by setting the brightness to 100%, it *never* stutters on my test stretch of road, but if I set the brightness to 0% it *always* stutters (unless it's 100% charged in which case it never stutters on eithr setting).

I realise it's only a simuted case using the Demo, so there may be other factors involved in the real-world driving scanario, but if it is something to do with the charging it might explain why some people have the problem while others don't. If you do have the problem try setting your brightness to 100% (and turn of the auto dim) and see if it improves things. Worth a try at least!
