Maybe if there were no add on phones and music players etc, the SatNav bit would work! _________________ TT Go 720 (T)

Jimbo, I don't think we're really disagreeing on anything much!
I'm certainly not seeing tomTom through rose-tinted specs - see my reply to the post from "HummerUK" just above yours for my feelings about them at the moment.
All I was really going to say (before I got carried away and tried to answer every one of your points) was:
Firstly that I'd noticed TT *have* put a sort of message in on the Jukebox page if you are using FM, to say the volume control will have no effect.
And secondly, that I never heard any clipping on the FM output on my cheapo car radio when I used FM - plenty of other nasty reception artefacts, and a general "strained through a sock" quality, but *not* clipping; so maybe your particular unit has a fault?
It's not that uncommon - my first 940 had to go back because there was a fault in the audio circuit that only showed up when using the TTS voices - it wasn't the voices themselves, but as they've frigged the volume of those to make them louder than everything else (making them sound distorted to me all the time on *any* unit) it caused them to break up completely on this particular one. |

My 720 got the stutters very badly over the weekend. And it was in an area that I wasn't familiar with, so I really needed it. Tried the "reset pin with power connected" trick and it significantly improved things. Had to do it every hour or so but at least I could use the device. |

Stewart, go back to page 28 of this thread and have a read through the instructions on a work around that seems to improve the problem, it isn't 100% but I don't have to reset the device every hour and I think it has stuttered once in four weeks since doing this. - Mike |

Andy,
Fair comment. I was perhaps a little grumpy yesterday because reading this thread makes me feel that way and the fact that every fix seems to employ the 'robbing Peter to Pay Paul' approach to programming.
I thought I'd hit paydirt with Version 8.320 until I got big hicks of Mp3 playback before each voice command which drives you nuts. (BTW still want to thank all those who sorted 8.320 headed up by Mike - still the best version).
FYI I use line out in the motorhome with good results. I'm considering a new Parrot with bluetooth audio too.
I'll wind my neck in now though as I'm beginning to drag this off topic.
Cheers

The mp3 playback pausing prior to the navigation instruction is annoying to say the least, and until a new software release is made available for the x20/ x30 units I don't think there is a work around possible at the moment - Mike |

Hi Mike, re this download.
I have a 720 which was updated to the 730 spec - as near as - using the software updates.
Should I use the download for 720 units or 730 units?? As technically mine is/was a 720.

Doesn't make much difference as I think the CAB files are identical.
I would go with the x20 version though.

Many thanks Andy.
Have downloaded the lot, will give the 720 version a go 1st. Have a short hours trip tomorrow around the lovely North Circular into Harlesden.
Will see how it works out. _________________ Triumph Tbird 1700. And now a Bonnie T100. |

Welcome to the Forum, go back to page 28 of this thread where there are direct links to the 8,320 version and the necessary voice files, you won't be offered this update via Home as its not officially intended for your device - Mike |

You have a 720 so the download for the x20 device is the correct one, if you are unsure about following the instructions I would await an official update from TomTom which you can install via Home - although when this will be made available is now known.
The other easier way to stop the stammering is to use a non computer voice, but the device will not read out road names if you do this - you can always switch the computer voice back on once this bug is resolved - Mike |
