This is not a definite fix anyway, I had two switch offs today with 3d buildings disabled along with avoid u-turns unticked.

I have tried the temporary "fix" of disabling 3d buildings and the U turns and still find that the system re-boots.

I find 2.30 to be more stable than 2.50 and have been unable to see the improvements in map drawing Garmin refer to in their change history notes for 2.50.

No - Garmin haven't released an update to fix the freezing / random shutdown of the 7X5 series. They may well roll out the "fix" with the ECO route uodate that will have a fuel usage, fuel cost calculator

Thanks for info. Guess I'll just have to wait a bit longer.
Cheers,

Once this problem is rectified I shall certainly purchase another 765T - or its successor - as I really liked the unit. It is much better, in my opinion, than the 860T which was the exchange unit for the 765.

I have these issues too - horrid slow screen redraws that seem to occur when the unit decides to switch to 3D buildings mode. The screen kind of blanks out white or grey.

I have had it switch itself off but only in simulation mode (when I muck about with it at home).

Really - i'm hating it - it's my 1st sat nav - and i'm thinking maybe i should have got a TomTom. I noticed the Garmin speed camera database to be pretty poor in London's Docklands area too.

I prefer the Road Angel 7000 Adventurer for the Speed Camera etc. Also has many other options available. For mapping it has the OS 1:50000 on SD card although this does not give turn by turn directions.

Base level maps are not of the same standard as Garmin but are adequate. So farI have experienced no problems with the 860T, it runs fine and accomodates all I need. I do still like the 765 as mentioned earlier and have brand loyalty with Garmin.

I think it is a case of ones personal experiences and preferences as to the SatNav one selects

For info - Garmin have released an update to Version 3.00 (via webupdater)which hopefully fixes some of the issues members of this forum have reported having with their Nuvi 7x5s.

The key changes from 2.50 to 3.00 are:
Added support for new MSN features - Weather Radar and Alerts, Send Routes to GPS, and Flight Delay Status.
Added support for ecoRoute features.
Corrected VIB support.
Updated to support new Audible book format.
Avoid Highway option now avoids limited access roads over long distances.
Adjust FM transmitter performance for Europe.
Corrected several issues with Language Guide support.
Enhanced A2DP (Stereo Bluetooth) support.
Added AVRCP (Bluetooth Audio Remote Control) support.
Added 3 way calling support.
Decrease traffic delay automatic recalculation threshold.

Hmm, I hope it doesn't mean it's being knobbled like TomTom's was Confused

I'll load it and report back.

The volume from the internal speaker seems much lower than previously.

The Ecoroutes program also seems to work as the Nuvi asked me to set up a fuel cost and vehicle profile which then calculated a trip cost on both the Wehere to screeen and on the trip details screen (max speed, total miles, driving time screen) now includes fuel cost too

Mike / Darren

The FM transmitter performance seems to have been "adjusted" so that instead of increasing / decreasing in 0.2mhz increments it now increments in 0.1mhz thus giving a much wider range of frequencies. The lowest frequency used to be 88.3mhz but with firmware 3.00 you can go all the way down to 87.6mhz (which was the range on the Nuxi 760 series from what I remember). This puts it just below the Radio 2 frequencies,

The new release has definitely solved some of the shut down problems on my machine (maybe all??).
