My experience of TMC in France this year was very poor and I wouldn't be bothered if I didn't have the service next time I went there.

In 1200 miles of driving there I had no warning at all of the two bad traffic jams and plenty of non-existent ones Evil or Very Mad

Interesting, I spent a couple of weeks driving around France in August this year and have to say I was most impressed compared to the UK. It regularly reported holdups and then when driving around Paris there was incident after incident and the TMC kept updating almost every 5 minutes to the point where it became annoying.

Glad to hear it worked for you Smile We travelled from Calais down the West coast all the way to the Med and then back up via Paris.

In all that time we had numerous false warnings of traffic jams and none at all when we were stuck in a 20 mile tail back at Peznas which we later found out was a known trouble spot owing to long term road works Confused

The air was blue, we were stuck in the damn jam for over an hour before I could get off he Autoroute and find a way around.

Having said that I distrust the data so much I'm not sure I'd have chosen to avoid it even if I had been forewarned. Bit like the Boy who cried wolf!

Dunno about Argos, but can confirm that Halfords and Dabs websites will do next day delivery, and other people here have done the same from handtec. If you don't mind waiting a day, I suggest you try one of them (maybe others too).

I used the TMC device in France in the summer on the drive from Calais down to Provence and was quite impressed. It seemed to pick up a signal and hold it for most of the way.
I assume it was using the 107.x FM Traffic radio that is broadcast along the autoroutes by the relevant toll operator.
I noticed that as you switched from one toll road operator to another I.E. around Lyon, that you would get a different set of notices. It correctly picked up a major lorry fire ahead and enabled us to avoid.
I tried switching between TMC TT Traffic info and TT Traffic info obtained by connecting via mobile phone to compare, they were usually very similar.
So next year when I make the same journey I intend to use the TMC devices info with probably a new GO 940 Live.
The picture off the autoroutes in France is quite different and in and around the towns of Provence I found there was virtually no TMC coverage, the device failed to find a signal in most places. Here I switched to TT Traffic info via mobile with no issues.
I had assumed that the new HD traffic would be pan European and that I would be able to eBay the TMC device, but looks like it may be worth hanging onto!
