when my tom tom 510 is mounted in a vehicle i keep getting asked if i want to connect to a computer this happens intermittently and is very annoying while in city centers in tight navigation

unit is about 2/3 years old
have scanned it for virus's all clear
and cleared the cash
updates all OK .works fine except for this iam wondering if the mount is worn or faulty thus generating the request for connecting to a PC also intermittent fail to charge via the cable when mounted in vehicle

your thoughts and remedies would be gratefully appreciated

That's the big clue...
Faulty/intermittent connection to the mount was a BIG problem with the x10 models, causing charging problems and switching off if you went over a bump.
I can't remember for certain if people also reported it causing the "connect to PC" message you are seeing, but as the USB conection goes through the mount, I wouldn't be at all surprised!

Try a search of the forum, using terms like "intermittent" AND "mount" and "510" (or "x10").
Some people have said that if they remove a particular small rubber bung it improves connection with the mount. Other people found it was missing and that finding a replacement helped!
