While travelling into London this morning between Junction 6A and Junction 2 and on my return between the two junctions there were quite a lot of Specs cameras showing up indicating 50mph - there was nothing there! I presume there had been roadworks along this stretch at some time but nothing there now. I have got the latest database from 22/10/08. Are they in the process of being removed?

You can always go to the SPEED CAMERAS section and use the "remove existing camera" option. Helps keep the database up to date.

Correct. There were roadworks there and they are now gone. The removal of the SPECS cameras is on the list to be verified.
