High folks, I’m new to the forum and a bit of a GPS virgin so to speak so please make allowances for any dumb questions I may ask. Just about to purchase an Active 10 but am concerned about its high usage of power, I intend to get a power pack but this may not be sufficient as I intend to walk for about 35 hours, can I purchase a second LiPo battery on its own without the rest of the power pack? as I don’t relish using Energizer AA lithium’s to get me out of trouble. |

With the backlight turned down to 60 or 70% will yield a big gain in battery duration, in use you set the screen to switch off after 30 seconds which again produces major savings, whether you would get 35 hours from a full charge though I am not sure - it will get very close to this though.
I would give SatMap a ring a discuss the possibility of supplying two LiPol cells and a single charger. If any of your 35 hours walk involves lunch in a pub though it should be possible to charge the device (with permission of course), even a single hour charge in the middle of 35 hours should get the device to last the duration.
When you get the device you should charge/ discharge the battery pack at least 5 times before trying any endurance testing with it, this will put the battery at maximum capacity - Mike |

A spare battery is available at £29.32

If you are walking for long periods with utter confidence in your location - on a clear path/road etc, you can turn the unit off to conserve power. It will "find itself" in seconds.
I have had mine run for over 24 hours with the backlight set to stay on for seconds only, and no information boxes up.
