I used to have CoPilot Live 6 with my XDA (running windows mobile 5) and work great.

Then I have got a hp iPAQ Business Navigator (running windows mobile 6 and integrated GPS receiver). The integrated GPS chips work great with other applications such as google maps. However, CoPilot Live 6 doesn't work as expected

I have disactivated CoPilot on the XDA and reactivated it on the iPAQ, then went to "Options"--"GPS"--"Setup GPS". Then selected Other and tried both Automatic search for GPS device and Manual setup. Both failed with message like "no gps signal detected ... ".

I also tried "Reset GPS" button and the "GPS Status" screen always show "GPS COM port opened" with a green tick, and "Detecting GPS signal..." in blue colour without a green tick. It seems no GPS signal can be detected. In additions, no satellites found in the "Satellites" screen too.

How can I get my new iPAQ works with CoPilot Live 6? Any comments will be appreciated!

Is there an LED indication on the iPAQ that the built in GPS receiver is starting up? I have had problems in the past with some applications/ hardware where the GPS fails to start up when called by the software.

One fix I use is for issues such as this is Fransons GPS Gate which acts as a GPS Port splitter as well as many other features, there is a free Port plitter available from Here which you might like to try, this will start the GPS then feed the positional data to your nav application - Mike

That works great now!! thanks!!

Just a quick question: I also use the 'external gps' application and have set com8 to program port and com6 to hardware port. Then I have use the splitter to split com6 to com1. My question is, would this affect other applications to use GPS when they run simultaneously? I'm not sure if 'external gps' and port splitter will turn out any possible conflict.

If you have been playing around with the useless GPS port manager supplied with the device then this will explain why Co-Pilot cannot find the GPS with standard settings. This applet is not very good at sharing an active GPS connection between applications, the add on Port Splitters can do this far more effectively.

If you use the add on port splitter each application can share the GPS data correctly, this is the most reliable approach when running multiple applications dependent upon a GPS data stream, it should also avoid conflicts - Mike

I think the splitter works like magic too. Thanks again!
