GPS Assist not giving warning for POI's

I have installed on an Ipaq 3970 TomTom Navigator 2 and GPS Assist.

I did have all of this running quite successfully but had to re-load all of software after battery failure on Ipaq.

Since that time despite re-loading both and seeing them load and run correctly I can see the POI's on the Navigator screen (as handled by TomTom) but cannot get the alerts to work.

Do other sounds from other programs or from the standard TomTom come out?

Yes they do in fact even GPS Assist does when you test a sound file.

I would point out it is not just the sound that is not warning I am getting nothing at all on the Ipaw when I get near a POI which I have set to warn (such as speed camera) other than the poi being displayed on the Navoigator main screen.

Originally a warning message (and sound) came up at the bottom of the screen
