I discovered 30 minutes into a journey this week that I had forgotten to take my power cord:-( It was on for maybe 45 minutes, and then intermittently off and on (thats me switching it off and on*) for the rest of my 2 hour journey, then on for another 15 minutes coming back. I reckon I got substantially less than 2 hours, maybe 1.5 hours. It had been on for maybe 30 minutes tops prior to that, so I think 2 hours is max.

*I didnt know there was an option to switch off the screen between instructions when on battery so thanks for that !

I bought a £5 multi-charger from Asda.

It takes a AA battery and has a mini USB which does my satnav or BlackBerry and one for my iPod.

A fiver well spent, worth checking the travel section of your local Asda ?

Well this is a new 520 so maybe the battery needs fully charging/discharging a few times? Also, I have just checked and bluetooth was switched on, I dont know how much of a difference that would make. It doesn't seem to make a big one on my phone if its on or off. I'd be very skeptical about 5 hours.
How much of your journey is on motorways/major roads where you dont really need any directions? Maybe you only really need it the last few miles?

Hi KerrAvon
When driving I always have my Tomtom plugged in to the cigar socket and so the battery time has never interested me. Until recently, when a friend of mine flew to France on his holiday and picked up his hire car at the airport. We can only wonder how he felt when he entered his destination on his Tomtom and then discovered that there was no ciggie socket in the car. Yes, he had been mugged by Elf and safety.

I think it's probably time they started calling this thing an accessory socket and take the lighter thingy out and chuck it.

My VW Passat already has, you can only use it as a power supply it will not work with a lighter

Having Bluetooth and/or the FM transmitter switched on will make a BIG difference to battery life.

Turning the volume right down or off can nearly double the battery life on my TomTom ONE V1, from approx 45mins to 90mins..
