Also check out the manual for the car deck, some units offer a way of setting additional boost to Aux inputs to normalise the levels when switching between audio sources.
I had to get the book out to find how to do this on my unit when confronted the issue, it didn't fix it 100% to my satisfaction, but I don't get my ear drums blasted when changing inputs anymore - Mike
