Map Update Service

I have just upgraded to the latest map for my device (TT1 Original) at a very reasonable price of £19.80, plus a Map Update service for a year for a similar price.
Not sure how that works unless every time I connect to Home during the coming 12 months, it checks and downloads any map updates available during that period of time. Can anyone verify this?
Interesting to note that a 19% vat charge is applied to this download, as against our 17.5%, (so much for reciprocity across the EU). I wonder how long it will be before we are brought into line with the rest of Europe.
