Used a GPS in Portugal?

Hi;
I am a long time lurker and first time poster here.
I have a built in Sat Nav in my car at home but i am looking for a new portable to use in a hire car in Portugal in a few weeks when looking for wedding venues.
The reason for the post - has anybody found a sat nav that is head and shoulders above others when used abroad? I have £150 - £200 to spend and was considering a Garmin 660FM but i have heard mixed reviews.

Obviously this will be used in another car when we get home so we have to consider that but the foreign maps are the primary concern now.

Any ideas / recommendations? I have trawled these boards and i am still non the wiser! I am a techie novice and there seems very few reviews on the european maps!

Any sat nav with European mapping is going to work in Portugal and the UK. Most of the features will be the same in both countries. Don't base your purchasing decision only on the need for it to work in Portugal. None are head and shoulders above the others when used abroad as our "abroad" is their "at home".

Most people have a favorite brand, range or model. You need to find one that suits your needs. Can I suggest that you go to Halfords or similar and get them to demonstrate the features and advantages of each model in your price range. You will then be able to see which you prefer.

Any model will get you to your chosen destination, you pay extra for larger screen size and fancy software features that often have nothing to do with navigation.
