Hi
Traveling down the motorway yesterday and in about a 10 mile stretch received about 5 spoken warnings informing me of speed cams, my attention is alerted and I listen to the info, only to be told that all 5 were a mobile or gatso 30mph or a 40mph warning from a road I am running parallel with, going under or over.
I know the warnings are tweakable to warn if on a planned route, but if you are just letting TT run and warn you of cameras with no route planned, are the speed camera warnings tweakable or are there any other tricks or adjustments to stop this happening?

I'm afraid not - if you haven't selected "Warn Only on Route", you'll be warned for everything within the "crow flies" radius distance you have set.

If you set a destination using a silent voice (downloadable via TT HOME) you won't hear the directions, but can use "Warn only on route".

No need to download a silent voice nowadays, Anita.

Change Preferences
Voice Preferences
Disable voice.

Bit more flexible, allows you to switch the voice off and on again quicker when you need directions.

So it does, Dennis. I'll have to remember that. I've always used silent voice!

And yes, Tony, you will still hear the ogg files using either method.

But you'll STILL get quite a few spurious alerts.... especially from mobile sites located on the roundabout at the end of sliproads.

OK, you still get a few, but I found it was a vast improvement when I switched to "Warn only if on route"!

But as far as I understand, if you switch to " Warn only if on route" you wont get any warnings at all if you just have TomTom running with no route planned. I have mine on even when I know where I am and where I'm going just for the cam warnings with no route planned.

Aye, well, like the man said, you make your bed, you lie in it. There's no middle ground I'm afraid. It's either the way you have it, warn wherever and without a route set, or warn only on route and you MUST set a route.

I think when Andy said you'll still get quite a few spurious ones with Only on Route setting, he probably meant quite a lot. Unfortunately the TomTom "band" is wide enough to include a lot you'd think wouldn't sound off. For me, like Anita, it IS better, but I have become accustomed to the spurious ones and as I never speed anyway, they are just good company for a lone driver!

Is it so arduous to set a destination? It can be ANY destination, not necessarily where you're going.

Well, yes, it is sometimes !! if I go for say a Sunday drive I don't even know in what direction I am going to turn at the end of my drive, and when I have decided that I still then don't know if I'm going North, South, East or West, unless that is v8 maps are now that good that it will give you a route even when you have not the faintest idea as to where I'm wanting to go.....I will have to look in the menu Laughing
As for put in ANY destination, not necessarily where I'm going...I think after 20 times of being told "Turn around when possible" it will just get turned off and put in the glove box, at best.
