A big hello to all with my first post. I have a HTC Kaiser 4550 with win mobile 6.0 and TomTom Nav 6.0 and 8.0gb mini sd card.
I am in the market to purchase a tracking device for my car so in the event it is stolen I can track it with my HTC or PC.
Its not a Ferrari or other mega motor but a 4X4 with all the toys which makes it a little more desirable.
I would have prefered to use the simple sms system that gives you the coords as there is no monthly subscription, a sort of fit and forget until needed.
Should I download something like google earth so I can enter Latitude and Longitude to find my car?
OOOORRRR,
I also fanced one of the real time trackers that actually show a signal on a page as the car is moving. Anything cheapish out there?
OOOOORRR
On the same note I use the car a lot off road here in Spain and once you leave the main road to hit the 'campo' the TOMTOM has a heart attack and is not a lot of good.
It has been rumoured there are TOM TOM maps of the countryside but I have yet to find them or any further info.
OOOORRRR
If not is there a system thats not to expensive that can be used as sat nav and trace my car and just dump the TT which in general I find very good?
Opinions please?
Sorry its a long post, I have put it here and can see it might also fit in a few others places on the forum, perhaps a moderator here could shift it if need be?
TIA
Regards

This may be interesting. Moving vehicles are updated every minute, I think. It's free. Click on Global Map at the left to get an idea.

The people tracking software is free but not the vehicle version, it is £199.00 + vat for the vehicle unit. Having said that, tracking from then on appears to be free.
I suppose if I could find an old windows mobile phone I could use that and just leave it in the glove box.
Thanks for that,
regards

May I suggest somewhere less obvious? Car thieves will look through glove compartments/boot etc in any event.
It needs to be hidden from view with access to power, preferably without any tell-tale wires visible. Behind the boot lining/"inside" the dashboard would be possible places. _________________ Phil |

Have a read through This from last year, the company have altered the hardware/ software since the write up but they are still worth considering, running costs are as low as 10P every six months - Mike |

Thanks for that, I just bought this....
Admin Edit: Link removed that attempts to open the OP Hotmail account. Think you have posted the wrong link!!! PaulB2005
on ebay worked out at £104.00 with a hard wired car charger and has quite a few features for example:
Geo-fence: Movement alert: Over speed alert: Audio monitoring: Back up battery: ect, so here's hoping I have chosen wisely!
Thanks for info anyway, and I will report back to forum after a few 'tests'
regards
