In copilot 4, is there a way / hack to alter the average road speeds used to calculate ETA? I take it that it uses figures similiar to the default values on the desktop version? This can be amended by the user, so they might be contained in some kind of config file on the PDA.

On a regular 160 mile journey it projects a journey time of 3hrs 50 mins or so, where it takes me under three hours, so it is quite innacurate.

Thanks,

Alastair

Lutz,

Many thanks - and what a good review too. Especially nthe distinction between route guidance and navigation. I also have a Garmin Streetpilot III colormap. Whilst in the car I would always switch it on to see where I was. Copilot is not really designed for that but it is much better at route guidance.

You would think, however, that it would be possible to hack a config file to alter the default values used for road speeds, and thus alter the ETA. Perhaps somneone from ALK could let us know which file contains the information. Then someone who is much better at computing than me might be able to provide info on hacking it - all with the usual disclaimers of course!

THis can be good, but it also can be bad. The route calculation algorithms are pretty fragile, and you can screw them up pretty easily. I am sure you did already revert back to the default speeds in TomTom because your custom settings just made it worse...
