TT XL going quiet after a few miles...

Just bought a new XL with Western Europe mapping.

It has updated to 8.010 via "home" and appears to loose its voice after a few miles.

If I do "change preferences", change "voice" and select JANE again it starts to talk. This has happened twice now..

Any suggestions please.

Also is 715.1689 the latest EU map, Home says yes but not sure if I trust the software.

The usual first advice is to try a reset with an unbent paperclip in the reset hole on the bottom.

This is what it looks like on the One XL, the new "XL 22 series" will be different as no SD card slot.

As for the latest maps, "Home" is lying - it does that to a lot of people.

and explain it to them. They should authorise the v720 map onto your account.

I would have said, wait a couple of weeks as v8 maps are due out soon, but other posts here are implying that they might be delayed to past your 30 free update limit.

Got the map updated OK, I assume that you only get one shot at it within the 30 days i.e if they bring out a newer map next week I wouldn't be able to get it...

Did a hard reset as well, on the XL you have to hold the power button down for 15 secs to reboot it... will try it out in about 20 mins to see if it works if not. email to TT...

Thanks again, just need to sort out the traffic antenna, not very reliable compared to the 3G phone link I used on my TT one...

Any idea what freq it is transmitted on ?..

I may have to post a question about that in the forum... Once I know the freq I can possibly sort out an external antenna or similar..

Yep, the little hand book tells you to reset by holding power button for 15 seconds....

That is correct the new One XL (or whatever it is named this week) doesn't have a reset button, just the power button which also acts as a reset when pressed for a long time - Mike

Just trying to decide if I can make some kind of antenna coupling to the existing broadcast antenna, the antenna with the traffic unit is rubbish and looks such a mess !!

I have only got one fix so far in around 3 hours of driving with the cable in various locations.

I'm trying to decide if the wire is just a single core cable using the power lead as the "ground" side of a dipole or if the thin lump part way down the cable is the point were the screening of some thin coaxial cable ends and then continues with the centre core covered in the insulation. Don't fancy cuttting the lead to find out until I'm happy the unit isn't going back

I work for a communications company and on the odd occaision I need to carrry a client they would think we were a right cowboy outfit with wires draped around the dash board. Wouldn't look very professional.

Must do some more research but if ALANJI is correct, a quarter wave length antenna is around 71cm for Classic FM (100Mhz I think).

Phil, there are quite a number of threads detailing how to modify the RDS-TMC. The aerial wire is indeed Coax from the bubble to the small lump of plastic, from that point on it is single core unscreened.

Some users have cut the lead prior to the plastic lump and fitted a connector, others have simply connected the end of the wire to an external aerial. I have used the mini-scan and sky-scan aerials which are both mag mount devices available from Maplins, or you can couple the RDS-TMC to your existing car aerial, just make sure the coax isn't carrying 12V to an aerial mast amplifier (some cars do this) - Mike
